Gonna start by reviewing my predictions from last year

He sure got awfully close, but the fact that Caleb got that insane 1:20.3 run was just unfair. 0 for 1 so far.
Darren wrote on 01/01/21 at 22:28:25:-King Alex rPG record will stand throughout 2021
Indeed it did. 2022 is Carter's year though. 1 for 2 now.
Darren wrote on 01/01/21 at 22:28:25:-rDH fast glitch will start to be implemented, bringing the track to a low 1:30 or even a 1:29
I got the first half of this correct, but unfortunately only one record was set here, and it was a high 1:30 at that. 1 for 3.
Darren wrote on 01/01/21 at 22:28:25:-Justin will likely not be dethroned, but if someone does do it it's Logan
I'll give this one to me, as Logan did indeed dethrone Justin and currently stands at #1. His standing at #1 is pretty much at the mercy of Justin though, with how good he is he could probably take it back within a week if he really wanted to. Both tremendously talented players nonetheless. 2 for 4.
Darren wrote on 01/01/21 at 22:28:25:-This is a bit of a wild one, but DDR will have the most records. Perhaps someone or multiple people will finally push the track towards a 1:46 and maybe even a bit deeper.
While DDR did get pushed to a 1:46 (about time), it did not have the most records. I believe this title went to MT glitch with the implementation of the floor ejection strat, but I'm too lazy to look that one up so I could be wrong. 2 for 5.
Darren wrote on 01/01/21 at 22:28:25:-RR glitch is made humanly for the first time, which is probably not a very original response but oh well
This one was pretty hard to miss, especially considering that it was made merely 13 days into 2021. Nonetheless, a legendary moment in Mario Kart Wii, and even speedrunning in general.
Overall, I would say that I was 3 for 6 in my predictions. Not bad, but I hope to do better this year. With that all out of the way, here are my predictions for January 1st, 2023:
- A New Player setting a WR?A few players come to mind here. We've got track specialists like Carter on rPG, Ryan on TF no-sc, and Ixy on WGM no-sc, and some overall just really talented players who have never set a record such as Alperen, Steve (you decide which one), ZCubed, and Emil. I think that out of all of these players, I would bet the most on American Steve. He's already awfully close on rGV2, all he needs to do is play enough and eventually he'll break free. However, I'd definitely like to see records from Ixy and Carter as well. I have a special place in my heart for track specialists.
-A current World Record that will still stand?Honestly, I don't think any record is completely safe to last throughout 2022. Many of the current longest standing records are already extremely close to being broken, with rSGB, LC, and WGM no-sc being good examples. However, one record that I really don't see being beaten this year, or for a long time in general, is rBC glitch. Call it a cop out, but not only is that glitch insanely hard to pull off (I believe Logan spent almost a month on it), but the run is surprisingly well driven for a first time glitch run. Even if someone were to sit down and grind until they make that glitch, they have a good chance of not even setting a world record. The 2:20.584 is a truly special record that gets hardly any praise anymore. I think that's something that ought to change.
- If any, a track that will get blown open by a new strat? This one is probably the hardest to predict, but I can see 2/3 shroomless cut happening on rBC3 sc. I'm not sure if this entirely counts as a new strat, since it's just doing a current strat but more, but that's what I'm going with. I think that with this implementation, we could see the track go into the mid or even low 1:56 range.
- Will the current Site Champion (Logan) be dethroned? If so, by who?I can see Logan and Justin having a nice back-and-forth, but at the moment no one is really even close to their caliber, so I will keep it brief and say no to this question. I'd love to be proven wrong, though.
- How many WRs will we get this year?I think that WR activity will continue along the path that it has currently been heading, with an amount somewhere between 95 and 110. If I have to give an exact number, then I'll say 98 because that's a cool reference.
Here is a list of some other things I think will happen this year. Some are realistic, and others are pure hype, but I'd love to see all of these being done:
-rWS 2/3 glitch, likely by Hunter cause who else would
-sub 45:00 total WR time
-Logan continues his monthly WR streak well into 2022, and will also pass Luke in total WR's set
-Kasey achieves records on rSGB, LC, and MC no-sc
-Blake gets the fabled 1:44 on DKSC, and will begin MMM WR attempts later in the year
-The current CM sc, rSL no-sc, rMC3, and DC records all reach 1,000 days
-rMC respawn glitch is made and implemented in a WR run, becoming the 20th RTA glitch category
I'll add more to this list if I can think of anything, but for now, here's to another great year for this game, which somehow continues to thrive approaching its 14th birthday.
