Hello MKW community. I have something I would like to propose to mkwrs.com and every other pro-TTer. So, it’s no secret that there are people who DISAGREE with Pause Buffering being banned. After all, it is Vanilla MKW. Glitches are also Vanilla MKW and they are allowed. This is where my idea comes in. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you: The “Buffered” Category!

How It Works

So basically, it’s just another category except it ALLOWS times that implemented Pause Buffering (like Brett’s time on rPG). This category will hopefully solve the disputes that I can imagine that happened due to the ban on Pause Buffering. It’s pretty much like the TAS category. The TAS category exists because it’s cool to see what the game is actually capable of, regardless of if the strats performed in Tool Assisted Runs are humanly possible or not. As Emil stated in the video explaining Pause Buffering “...people won’t be impressed because it’s not the way people should run competitively”. I agree with this statement, however, some people may find Pause Buffering impressive because of the abilities players gain from using it.

The Big Debate

Now the big question, should it be official (official meaning should it be a new standard)? Should MrBean & Chadderz implement it in CTGP? I think it would be a really cool thing to have and it can bring even more variety to MKW. If this does become sort of a standard then I can see the Buffered category being a great addition to the Ghost Database that CTGP has. I wanna hear your guys’ opinion. In the comments tell me what you think about it. I’m gonna DM MrBean and Cole on Discord and bring them to this thread. Cole is the owner of mkwrs so he can put that category on the website.

No.

It sounds like a good idea in theory, but little to no one is actually going to take advantage of it. I don't see medium to low level players ever spending time to optimize a pause buffer run, and I doubt very many "optimized" players are going to, (I certainly wouldn't, could he wrong about what the rest of the community thinks).

When small irrelevant categories are made, it devalues the worth of existing ones. This is why tracks like dkjp and gv that have what I refer to as "dumpster fire" categories like rock hop and spiral, don't see any real activity other than maybe the record holder as some sort of BKT run to get for fun.

I just dont see it having near enough of a demand to think about, considering Peach Gardens is the only real track with any buffer time set that beats current best time without.

Pause buffering rule as it is right now is an absolute joke to be honest for several reasons which I & others mentioned in the main thread and elsewhere (but got ignored and we were forced to obey this rule created by a "small council" that decided our fate). Seperate categories isn't really a good idea, the least of all evils is acknowledging the runs as WRs still but putting an * next to them on mkwrs.com. But above all, let's take a look at the relevant main rules on mkwrs.com shall we:

All new WRs must have sufficent proof. Players who set WRs must either:
•Play on CTGP and upload the WR ghost (or a ghost close to the WR time).
^Actually enforceable and doesn't rely on "honour system"
•OR stream live attempts and demonstrate their skill level on that track.
^Actually enforceable and doesn't rely on "honour system"

Playing on CTGP is preferred over the vanilla game due to the anti-cheat mechanisms it has. It also allows easy sharing of ghosts.

Additional rules:
•No using game modifications that affect time trials gameplay (e.g. custom textures / custom music).
^Actually enforceable and doesn't rely on "honour system"
•No using a turbo controller or controller macros.
^Somewhat enforceable and doesn't rely on "honour system"
•No using the pause/HOME button to gain a driving-related advantage, such as the Peach Gardens flower hop pause buffer technique. Full details here.
^Relies SOLELY on "honour system"

Something stand out? The 50hz rule is also unenforceable but is another story. Having a rule solely based on honour in a video game KNOWN for cheaters & hackers? What the hell, lol.

Will some people be honourable and follow it? Of course. Will some people lie about why they paused in their runs and abuse it? Absolutely. Without a doubt. This just gives them an unfair edge over other players. Imagine for example someone realizes they can make one shroom rSL glitch with buffering certain inputs (not out of the realm of possibilities). You think they'd be incentivized to tell the truth if they pull it off? Absolutely not. They lying about why they paused and will get away with it. Meanwhile, poor Bryce & co will see and continue wasting hours slamming into a pole at a serious disadvantage. Just being realistic here, and that's just one simple hypothetical but of course could happen on any track with any strat.

Pause Buffering ban is somewhat ridiculous but I tried to explain it's ban in the CTGP Records video. Still I disagree with it being banned (or just being ignored since there was only 1 WR with it lmao).

I think Cole just wanted to maintain a status quo when it comes to mechanics. Theoretically, with every new added mechanic there comes a wave of players who try to exploit it to the fullest and I dont want Pause Buffering being META (I dont even think it would be if its legal) but it is how it is.

The funny thing is (and thats why I dont really understand why people complain so much): Why do you think you have to stop abusing this mechanic? Times wont be added on MKWRs because it doesnt fit the requirements but nontheless a WR with Pause Buffering is officially a World Record. People will recognize it and will give enough credit aswell.

Yeah dude, I guess the main reason people care about mkwrs is because it is seen (to my knowledge) as the leading source of legitimate WRs. If a run isn't on mkwrs, there's definitely a black cloud over it and people question your legitimacy/efforts (just look at suiryu on BC).

tbf, It should be something like a 3rd category/Alternative Category.

I created an Alternative top 10 on MKB and I could actually add these times

I agree with @ZedR on this one. It can be an alternative category where people wouldn't have to worry about pause buffering to help them.
