How was your 2018 karting experience?

The year's not quite over, but it's happening soon. I had the intent of joining the Player's Page from late 2017, so I did my best to focus on my worst tracks in preparation so my AF wouldn't be too awful. I made an account on January 1st and joined at #95 (too appropriate and completely coincidental). After seeing my timesheet, I created 3 main goals for 2018:
1) I wanted to sub 100 AF
2) I wanted to have all my times King D or above
3) I wanted to be in the top 200 for every chart

With some time, I managed to achieve all three of these. I went from an AF of ~133.7 to ~90.0 over the course of the year and jumped from #95 to #53.

How did your 2018 pan out?
What goals did you set for 2018? Did you achieve them?
I'm curious to see what people say

Generally throughout the year, I wasn't making the progress that I had hoped for. I generally got really burnt out from the grinding. In the last quarter, something clicked that pretty much changed how I drive and TT in general.

Here are some highlights from the last 3 months or so:

MMM: 1:16.435 ---> 1:15.844
WGM: 1:51.763 ---> 1:51.455
MH: 1:43.732 ---> 1:43.383
rYF: 59.85x ---> 59.267
rSL: 2:05.220 ---> 2:04.794
rDS 2:05.192 ---> 2:04.900
rDH 1:35.732 ---> 1:35.072
rDKJP 2:14.59x ---> 2:12.156

Never have I made anywhere close to the amount of progress in such a short time. Greatly looking forward to what 2019 holds.  Smiley

My goals for the year were

All legend D or above on everything no glitch and combined: checked
Top 10 on the combined charts: checked
Be a good person: not checked
Keep the epic WiiLord95 MC tie: checked
WW tops on something: not checked
Become a community meme: checked
Meet and talk to great people in the community: checked
Be happy and content with mkw: checked
Move out: checked

EDIT: 26.12

Just finished a pretty fast flap grind for AF, pretty sure I've subbed 30 AF now, feels pretty good. Really happy to get this far in terms of the PP in 2018  Smiley

2018 for me:

Many things happened this year. Besides of interesting comebacks and great WR achievements I also had a satisfying year.

Goals I achieved:

- Beat Roy and taking over his #1 GER spot.
- Most CRs
-Top 10 AF

Goals i missed

- Getting close to a WR. I grinded rMC and i have WR splits but my sessions lack of consistency.

Goals for 2019

- Trying to get into top 5 AF
- 30 CRs
- Stream everything
- Shooting for a WR.

In 2018, I achieved my goal of lowering all my WR times to something I'm more satisfied with, but I also got records on a few more tracks. Outside of world records, I doubled the amount of WW tops I had from 2017. At the beginning of 2018, I had 10 WW tops, but I ended up peaking at 20 this year.

I'm hoping that I'll eventually be able to get all eight of my WR tracks back in 2019 (as well as getting some new ones), but that would require playing some pretty obnoxious tracks Roll Eyes. I still haven't completed my timesheet, but that might change in the coming year.

My 2019 goals:
-Get MMM, rYF, rSL, and rDH WRs back
-Get GV2 glitch WR
-2:08 on BCWii
-Finish timesheet
-Have regionals/WW tops on every track (currently have 8 more to get)

Very happy that I achieved most of my TT goals I set to myself prior to 2018. I managed to end the year with a WR (something I didn't have ending last year), on rYF. Getting another WR was my main goal coming into this year. I managed to improve the time I had coming into the year of 59.119, by a sizeable margin of over .3 to 58.775, getting my first no-glitch WR and the first .7 on the track. Retaining this record and even improving it would be one of my main aims in 2019, but I would ideally like to get my current record to lasting 100 days - it is currently on 70 days as of writing this. Furthermore, WW tops on 3 new categories and European tops on 9 new categories were nice additions to make. The vast majority of these being no-glitch tracks is nice, as I wanted to improve my general driving skill over the year, and I feel that these times demonstrate progress.

In 2019, I'd like to end on at least 3 WRs, as being a multi WR holder is something I've wanted for a while, and I have potential on numerous tracks, including MC on both categories, rPB, DKJP, SGB, etc. I would also like to try out a lot of new tracks and ideally add to my WW and regional top 10 tally, and outside of general gameplay, streaming some tts somewhat frequently would be interesting. Let's hope 2019 is another enjoyable year for MKW, and good luck to everyone else Smiley

Is anyone still actively trying to beat you? Maybe just Braixen? You'll definitely make the 100 but looks like you'll have some competition next year Roll Eyes

Honestly for me from an MKW perspective, 2018 was awful. I don't want to sound negative but I really have no good memories of playing besides maybe getting my CT BKT on Twinkle Circuit which I know sounds lame, but it's a time I'm actually proud of/satisfied with. Oh and PBing by over a full second in MT in a single PB (2:19.5xx -> 2:18.500). Learning rPG with Auto and MMM with Spear were fun at first but then became painful to play. On that note, my only other real accomplishments were getting top rYF and GV times but I can't really say I enjoyed that because both tracks were extremely unfun. Sadly, the most fun I had was playing the meme RR glitch category for about a week because it allowed me to be in my element and get back to doing what I loved about this game - innovating and finding/implementing new strategies, which is becoming harder and harder to do these days. Speaks volumes about what I enjoy/actually care about in this game.

This year's been pretty nice. I feel I've tied up lots of loose ends:

  • Top 30 AF rank
  • 3/3 Pipe bounce WGM
  • 28.1 DC flap (wanted this ever since I got my first flap WR here in Jan 2015)
  • 3/3 rBC3 ultra
  • 1:18.5 rMC3
  • Actually playing rBC for once
  • Beating 50% of expert staff ghosts on CTGP (128/250 gold stars)

The one thing left that I really want to do is beat my DC 3lap. Luke beating it was inevitable so I'm not upset I don't have WR anymore, but I've improved so much at that track without a new record to show for it. Once that happens (and I think it will in the next few days Smiley) I probably won't play much more of this game. My time is very limited these days and I don't have the ability to get any new WR's, but I've accomplished pretty much everything I wanted to do, so that's nice Smiley

Not a lot happened for me, my highlights were taking over 1 second off my spiral skip BKT, taking #2 on the AF charts. a few reg/WW tops here and there.

Goals for 2019: Actually play the game more than 5-10 hours a week and I'll try to not get upset or anything. My knowledge for this game is a lot better than my PRs show but I'm lacking consistensy due lack of activity, I never really took big breaks, I never really went for longer than 1-2 weeks without playing, let's see what 2019 will bring for me.

I tried to play, realized that

A.) I am rusty as fuck
B.) These new kids are fuckin crazy
C.) I'll never set another WR in this game

and then my Wii and Wii U bricked within 3 weeks of one another

Great year! Grin
