Has there been any talk of moving the top 10s to MKLeaderboards?

Hey Omar  Smiley

I think moving the top 10s to MKLeaderboards is actually a good idea.
Ryan contacted me already and he wants to help in creating/updating the top10s for MK7 on that website.

I think the benefits are:
-Having all of the top10s in one designated location.
-You can have multiple updaters. So it wouldnt be on just Will's shoulders, or just on Joshua's shoulders to update the specific top10 threads.
- When you update  a ww top 10 time from a Japanese player for example,  it will automatically show up in the Japanese top 10s. No double work.
-I think if you want to submit a new top 10 time from someone else that you saw on youtube or elsewhere, you can post it on Discord. An updater can pick it up and add it to the site. I don't know if it has to be in the MKLeaderboards discord server. We already have top 10 channels in the mk7 tt server. Or maybe we can use both, idk. I think posting top 10s on the forum will not be needed.
-The website has matchups and automatic player rankings as well.
-The top 10s will probably have more visibility. You can’t find our current top 10s by searching on google.
-The website makes the top 10s seem more official. Like mkwrs does

So I like it, and I think it will be better than what we are doing now.
Ryan is willing to help us to move all tops to MKLeaderboards, and he wants to look for fellow updaters.

Maybe let's see first what the rest of the community thinks.

I'm not sure if anyone will agree with me but I personally don't really want to use MKLeaderboards. They separated the MK8 community from the rest of the TT community. The site also seems to be a copy of the PP, except more modern. I hope that only the top 10's would be moved if it does happen. If everyone wants them moved there, I won't argue, as it should be a community decision.

For MKW the site is mostly used for viewing/updating the top 10s. The PP is still more popular for player's rankings and timesheets.

I'm happy to see my site getting recognized. Sorry I don't notice the thread until now as I only yesterday played MK7 for the first time in a while.

I'd be down for moving the top 10s to MKLeaderboards. But only if I have support. Frederiek has made some good points why it is better than forum threads.

"Trashua" has mentioned that my site has separated the MK8 community away from the Players' Page. I think that's debatable as there are plenty of other reasons the Deluxe PP has "failed" to catch on. Here are some other reasons:

- MKLeaderboards didn't exist for the first 6 months of Deluxe's release. Even during that time, the PP got few submissions. There has been a downward trend since 2016 or so, with the original MK8 also, but the effect got amplified with Deluxe. Why:
- For the first few months, the new PP was atrociously slow. I'll take the blame for that and accept it. Fortunately, that's largely fixed now. However, it did drive away most players when the site and new game launched. I'm hoping we can push the PP for MK9 and make it "popular" again.
- MK8 Deluxe has 96 categories to a complete timesheet. That, on top of the fact that the game is a port and many players had already played the tracks before, leaves less motivation to complete their timesheet on the PP. Even MKLeaderboards has very few players with a full 48/96 timesheet.
- Discord wasn't taken advantage of with the MK8PP like it was with MKLeaderboards. The MKLB discord server lets people submit their times in a dedicated submissions channel. This is where we get most submissions. The site also lets people submit times but we don't get as much activity on-site.

Also, I've recieved criticism for creating "two sites" and "killing the PP". Trust me, I didn't want this at all, especially after spending 2 years working on the Players' Page. I honestly think the low activity levels on the PP had to do with the site's slowness during the first bit. Since there weren't many players on the site when this was improved, there wasn't much incentive to join. I'll take the blame for that and will work towards a better situation for the next game. Remember that my intent for MKLeaderboards was to create a site for top 10s similar to how MKWRs is a resource for WRs. I didn't want to destroy the PP at all. For MK7, I believe MKLeaderboards will work really smoothly, and don't get me wrong, I still plan on bringing the "new style" PP to MK7 if people still want it. It won't come too soon as there's still important features I need to add such as standards and news, which I've been actually more motivated to get going on lately. Just remember that I still support the TT community and want to keep making things better.

Now that I've said all this, I think we can have a discussion on whether to migrate the top 10s to MKLeaderboards. @Frederiek, contact me by forum PM with your discord contact, I'd like to discuss with you personally as well.

It's far too easy to forget what it's like to be a kid. But one secret to happiness is to be able to pick out links to our childhood in the mundanities of adult life. That's why I love Mario Kart. Whether I'm imagining wading through frosting in Sweet Sweet Canyon to take a bite of that giant donut, or picturing myself, shrunken down, making my way through Waluigi's pinball machine, there's something rejuvenating about the game that provides a nice reminiscence of the halcyon days gone by.
