I'll let Kyle know about the registration issues Sami.  I apologize I haven't been more proactive in the process, they are definitely making this all happen, and letting me be a dad in the meantime, it's much appreciated!  I'm going to a local game shop tomorrow to see if they will let me borrow some extra consoles in exchange for their business name on the poster.

Don't worry man thats all fine, please let Kyle know to take his time I know you all have lots to do.

I will update the first page lists with the confirmed players. Then can let us know whenever  the registration page is ready so we can do it a bit later, no rush Smiley

Hey Guys,

I need some more info please.

What is the name and address of the place the meet will take place? I will need to get a hotel close by.

I plan to fly in so will need a ride from the airport.

What is the weather like that time of year?

Can I pay my fee at the door?

Thanks,

Dave

Dave that will be great to meet you if you can make it as well. I will definitely be there with at least one more from the UK as Matt mentioned in the Karthritis episode. So including Clark you may get to meet 3 members of the UK, or 4 if Moll could go too? Only may need to cancel nearer the time if any commitments happen. Hopefully everyone else from France / Netherlands can confirm soon too.

I'm sure Matt Eric or Kyle can answer your questions.

Weather in Louisiana (and Mississippi) is usually pretty nice in March. It will most likely be T-shirt weather even at night, but you can never be completely certain, as that one two-day cold spell of the month could very well come during the ASC. You'll definitely have to check weather.com a few days before leaving before you decide whether you really need to bring that light jacket. It could be in the 80s in the afternoon or it could be in the 30s at night. (The former is much more common nowadays, though.) It could also be raining the entire time. It will probably be warm, it could even be a bit hot, but it could also be cold as well, or at least cold by Louisiana standards-- you are highly unlikely to see snow in northern Louisiana in March, but I can't say that it's a complete impossibility. Mild or warm temperatures are the rule, but is by no means a total guarantee, as mid-March is, after all, still officially considered winter, though everyone (at least in the South) considers March to be a spring month.
Spring weather in the South is variable. You should know that, coming from Tennessee.
Pray that there are no tornadoes, because that, too, is quite a possibility.

As for your second question, I know nothing about this. I've never registered for a Kart tournament or anything else before.

If I'm too busy to make it this year, I will try 2020. Because if this ASC turns out to be a success, then it'll definitely be back next year, I'm sure I'll have plenty of opportunities for an ASC appearance in the years to come. I pay my home insurance bill in March, and here in hurricane country, that always comes first. I also have a lot of work to do in my back yard this spring.

I am trying to get a very busy week off work, understand if this is the same case. As for the Sunflowers, they are always a priority but I won't use that as a reason not to come, so my garden prep stuff which is always in March will get pushed back for this. It is only a few days and a weekend after all. It's not every year we can go. Some players will attend in 2020, some will not be able to make it then, so we may not all see you then either. It would have been great to meet you Nick. Considering how close it is and that Matt, Eric and Kyle will do what they can to help you get there, please think about it for this edition.

If it is an absolute no, then no problem we hope to see you in a future year. And Matt - as the guys mentioned, focus on trying to get Fenner there then.

That was Matt's plan from day 1, so it's probably not worked already. Unless Harvey can make the short time and attend with some help that will be great.

Just for my information as I have never been to the Southern states before except Florida in 1992, isn't the stronger weather season / possible hurricanes generally nearer September / Fall time onwards? Just by memory when it was on the news previously, apologies if I am wrong.

Yes, hurricanes are usually August/September around here, but Monroe is ~200 miles inland so doesn't get the most severe effects of the storms. You definitely do not have to worry about them in March, but tornadoes can happen basically any time of year.

Folks, it's a little early to get disappointed by my non-appearance at ASC, because with two more months to go, nothing is set in stone! But I have always put my family before everything else and they always need me to help with something. I don't want to just abandon them, even for a couple of days (none of them know any of the people here on this forum beside me). If it's not my parents then it's aunts/uncles, I will never say no to them. I'll have to get with them on this, for sure. And who knows, I might actually be working in March...?  Cool

Like I said, if I don't make it this time then I'm sure there will be an ASC in 2020, and as Sami said, some people who come for 2019 may not be back in 2020... but I, ever the optimist, believe that in 2020 (or 2021) I may be able to meet somebody who didn't come in 2019. Of course, if I'm actually going to travel out of town (something I rarely do at the moment, mind you) to meet some of you guys, I may as well go all the way with it and attend a CDM in Europe, don't you think?  Cool

Also, if Matt or somebody else is going to personally drive somebody to ASC, Koltz is much closer. Just sayin'. We haven't gotten him on board yet, after all. My old friend Josh Stevens is from the Jackson area as well, but I do not think he currently lives there.

^ Don't see Koltz listed on the front post, so I wasn't sure about him, though I did think someone mentioned that he could be interested. Like me, he may or may not be able to make it, as he is not yet on the "confirmed" list, but you're probably more likely do see Koltz than you are to see me. I know he can be busy, he too has to get with the people in his own personal life before he can take the plunge.

At any rate I'm going to need a hell of a lot of practice to get back into top form especially NTSC. I also have no experience playing against human opponents in GP, MR, or Battle seeing as I have nobody to play with, except when my dad played with me sometimes when I was a kid. One day I might try playing against somebody online on ZSNES, I think we even have an online SMK tournament (SNESOT). I wouldn't expect to do well against other seasoned SMK players, as strategies for multiplayer (especially Battle) are obviously going to be different than for time trialing.

The USA is not the Netherlands, Karel. Louisiana alone can hold the Netherlands three times over, as can Mississippi. It's a solid 5 hours of driving from here to Monroe. And another 5 back. You're probably as close to Paris as I am to Monroe. And if Joe plans on driving Chris Clark all the way from Denver, that's easily a two-day drive, they will have to stop and spend the night somewhere in Texas or Oklahoma. (Assuming that both of them are even able to make the trip at all) Clark, in particular, is going to learn firsthand how massive the USA really is (especially by European standards) when he travels from Denver to Monroe by road. And that's not even half of the length of the country.

I wish everybody luck on making it for the inaugural event. Including myself. Because if this does turn out to be a success, there will surely be many more ASCs to come. If you don't see me this time I will definitely try to make sure you see me next.

I've checked, my airport does not have flights to Monroe, I don't think. Dave, or somebody, needs to check the website for Monroe's airport to confirm which cities have flights into Monroe. I know there can't be many. It's not a big international airport or anything. Mine isn't that big either.

I know Nick, I toured your country for 3.5 weeks during April 2018.  Wink NY, Salt Lake, Yellowstone National Park (Cool), Arches, Bryce, Zion, Vegas, Death Valley, Yosemite, SF, LA. Most of it by car, though NY to Salt Lake we took a flight. The drive from Yellowstone to Arches took 1.5 days and it didn't even look like such an impressive distance relative to the U.S. map. It truly is a big place.

That said, I've heard Matt say this about driving you if needs be, so that's why I brought it up.  Wink

If, in the event that I'm unable to appear personally, perhaps my copy of SMK and an extra SNES (and maybe also a controller) can come to Monroe in my stead, just so long as you make absolutely sure that I get everything back when the ASC is over. Everyone who comes will be able to see all of my Time Trial records on my cart, so long as they're still intact (I have more recently had some minor difficulties getting this cartridge to start up, and this can cause data to be lost-- it's happened with both my American and Japanese Final Fantasy IV carts). Maybe somebody will beat them if there is a time trial competition. I also have a Japanese copy I can loan you. The SNES that I am considering sending, will be able to play it as its cartridge slot has been modified. Be extra careful with it, though, as that one's the only one I have that can play PAL games and it's been to France and back, modified by the one and only FFVIMan. I'm sure it would once again be happy to meet some new Karters.  Cool

I'd be happy to help with this event any way that I can, and I'm willing to ship you some supplies for you to borrow. Anything with the initials NCH written on it in permanent marker is mine, for those of you who happen to encounter it in Monroe, so you will know what needs to be returned to Gulfport. I'll get back with you or Matt when it gets closer to the date of the event. Maybe around late February. But right now it's a little early for me to finalize any plans.

Thank you so much for all the considerations Nick!
If you can't make it, we will meet up with you sooner or later for sure.  Also another thing we haven't touched on is a prize table ala cdm determined by overall finishing spots. I'd like that to happen, and anyone that can donate a prize would be much appreciated!
