Speaking of Sami I wonder if he's hurrying back to London so he can get his usual weekly SMK site update done by Monday night (or Tuesday). Or is he just going to wait and do the next update next week. Because I'm sure he'll have plenty to talk about for this week, and there'll be plenty of NTSC PRs to update, not just the one Karel drove on MC1 on my cartridge! Maybe even some new players as well.
Can't wait to see everybody's new times as well as Sami's commentary!

I'm gona do the update here from hotel. Most players have sent their PRs I believe. I wont do a long commentary as the videos from the stream which we will hopefully see eventually will do the talking I am sure plus everyone can do their own 'bilan' on the forum with stories to tell Smiley

Anyway more importantly, you should have been there!

Most importantly a huge huge thank you to the Kartel team for doing this amazing event. We can't wait for the next one! There was a lot of setup and thank you also to Kyle, Chris, Matt, Alex and Eric for taking us round town and to and from the hotel and helping to make our trip a pleasant one Smiley

A very special Thanks to my friends for making a real dream come true, and my friends from around the world for making the journey, to make the event a true success!  I expected more of a local turnout, but I'm more than happy for the final results.
Congrats to Leyla, and Karel for making some SMK history!
Martin winning 3rd in time trials was impressive as well, it was nice to finally meet you!
I'd also like to thank Joe, and Vanessa for making the long last minute drive to accommodate Mario, and Zarkov, after their brutal travel problems.
The fact that they all felt it was worth it in the end, made me very happy!

Playing time trials, and getting new "HR" last night with Karel, Martin, and Matt was the cherry on top!
I was baffled neither Karel, or myself could not get, the sub 1:03.00 on "Mud Island 2", I'm going to blame the TV.

The feeling of being a world champion is intoxicating, and I didn't want to ever not be the world champion again. Then I realized it didn't matter that much since I had nothing more to prove and achieved my most important goal(s).

I have created a new, separate topic for everyone's own "bilan." I apologize in advance for the length of the first post, but a story of that magnitude couldn't be contained. And I also blame myself for being a bit wordy in the way I relay stories...  Smiley Smiley

I'm assuming Guillaume took some time to brush up on his English speaking and listening skills before going on this trip. (Although his written English has always been really good.) I mean... good luck making an order at a Taco Bell in Texas in French.  Cheesy
Joe could have helped with some translations along the way but the ASC, by its very nature, was an English-speaking event.

(This applies to KVD and MVH as well, of course, but Karel seems to be quite fluent, I've heard him speak in a YouTube video. Don't know about MVH but Karel could have certainly interpreted for him when necesssary.)

In short, their English is better than most native Louisiana peeps.

If that's true of all the Dutch, maybe I really wouldn't have to worry about any language barrier if I was ever travelling in the Netherlands. Because they'll speak English just like they're from Louisiana, only better. Cheesy

I suppose their mentality towards speakers of the bigger languages (English/French/German) is, "You never bother to learn our language, so we just went ahead and learned yours." This is probably also true of native speakers of other languages that are confined to a small geographic area, like Danish, Czech, Estonian, or possibly even Greek. Though it would probably still help to learn as much of a country's language as you can before you go and visit it in person. I'd feel kind of dumb being in, say, Finland, without knowing how to at least count to ten.  Wink

^No need to learn other languages imo. In all my travels abroad, the only countries where I've found a significant number of people under the age of 40 that can't speak near perfect English are France and the US.

Typically the only foreign I bother to learn is how to order a beer, just in case an emergency situation arises.

What the hell part of the US were you visiting? Were you somewhere near the Mexican border, where most of the population speaks Spanish as their first language? Or maybe an Indian Reservation populated by Native people who strongly prefer their tribal language over English? You've got to tell me more about this.  Tongue

By the way, did any of you non-US Karters ever take the time to visit a Wal-Mart while you were in the States? Wal-Mart is the true all-American shopping experience.  Smiley

Also, please tell me that eoJ/Clark/Antistar had their radio on a country music station for at least part of their road trip, otherwise they truly haven't experienced America.  Cool
And not a station that plays today's garbage, but one that plays the classics that Americans my age grew up with. George. Reba. Garth. Trisha. Vince. Clint. Wynonna. Shania. Tim and Faith. No last names necessary because if you're a country fan, you damn well know all their last names.

I was quite annoyed that we didnt tbh as im a big fan of George Carlin, Garth Merenghi, Trish Stratus, Vince Vaughn, Clint Eastwood, Wynonna Ryder, Tim Sherwood, and Faith No More. I assume that's who Nick was referring to anyway.

I'll try to finish my bilan soon BTW. I was interrupted by Rambi Attack Joe's actually, mine was even longer already, written during the Atlanta to Paris flight, and… had only reached the TT part (so well, it was more like an overall journey story), I need to finish this when my memory's still clear.
