I'm pretty much 100% in. Will be traveling with a friend (Austin Perroux from The-Elite). Looking forward to seeing everyone. Not sure if I'll participate in the tournament.... but I'm leaning more towards it, especially if it's triple elim

I wonder if eoJ and Chris Clark have departed from Denver yet and started their Dumb & Dumber road trip. Hope they make it to Monroe safely, as there are currently some severe winter storms in the Denver area. It's not unusual for Kansas, Oklahoma, or the Texas Panhandle to deal with occasional blizzards in mid-March as well; eoJ will have to keep an eye on the weather for the drive back to Denver as well. I'm sure he knows that weather in the central US can do this during this time of year, but does Clark?

As for Monroe itself it looks like the weather will be unseasonably cool, as I mentioned could be possible earlier in this thread. It probably won't be any colder than what the people visiting from the UK or Netherlands are used to, however.

Looks like you're going to have a busy Thursday and Friday because you've got just those two days to both meet up with Joe and make the car trip all the way to Monroe. Sure you can manage that? It's going to be a two-day drive from Denver to Monroe at any rate, you're going to have to spend a night in Texas or Oklahoma (unless Joe is willing to drive through the night, which he might have to)... and there is a severe thunderstorm system currently crossing that part of the country (Dallas had hurricane-force winds on Wednesday!). So... are you two up to it?

Hopefully the worst of the weather will already be past as you go through Texas, but on such a long drive, you've got to be ready for anything, especially this time of year (tornadoes are definitely not out of the question, I'm afraid)... and you still have the whole trip back to Denver to deal with as well.

Where are you traveling from, OKC? I'm looking to get a ride part way. I'm targeting Dallas or Little Rock as my stopovers. The Greyhound is booked from Dallas to Monroe, so I'll have to rideshare my way there if I choose Dallas.

Sorry to hear what happened Clark and Joe. Please be safe Joe, the weather seems really rough. I hope it eases up soon and Clark can find his way too. Not sure if Drew is suggesting to meet you guys on the way somehow? Hope all works out ok.

Just departing in literally 5 minutes so have to switch phone off. Atlanta stop and change to Monroe. Catch you guys later.

Maybe it's for the better than I'm not in Monroe with you guys tonight. I feel like I'm coming down with something, possibly a stomach ailment. I've barely been able to eat today, I've had frequent bouts of diarrhea, and my burps (which are frequent) have a foul sulfuric odor. I've been getting those "sulfur burps" more and more often in recent months. Hopefully nothing is terribly wrong with my digestive system, but if I don't feel better by Sunday, I'm afraid I'll have to visit a doctor.

It's strange indeed for this to be happening to me at this specific time... I guess God does indeed work in mysterious ways.

I really wouldn't have been able to present myself well at the ASC in such a condition, and my frequent bathroom breaks, rotten-egg belches, and loud, potent farts would certainly start to get on everyone's nerves. And the last thing I'd want to do is be a real-life burden on all the friends I've made here over the years.

Wish me well!  Smiley

I hope you make a swift recovery, it sounds like food poisoning perhaps.  We all appreciate the console, cartridge, controllers, and taking the time to hand write an enclosed letter!  I felt like I was holding a piece of Kart history for sure.  I'm confident you will make future meets, and I truly look forward to that day!
Once again I wish you a speedy recovery and thanks for taking the time to mail us your set up, it will be returned promptly after the tournament!

Glad to see that my SNES/SMK/controller set got to Monroe in time! I was worried that it might arrive late, but the postal service kept their promise.

Good luck to everyone, it'd be interesting to see who ends up using my cartridge during this event, but please remember to press L+R+Select+A on the console upon startup so that it runs in NTSC mode (you've probably heard this already few times, but I just want to make sure everyone knows!). Check for that red light! (Also be sure not to confuse the NTSC/PAL switching code with a similar four-button code in the game that differs by only one button. Just... don't.)

I was able to get a can of Chef Boyardee Ravioli down tonight at least, that's a start. Those have lately been my go-to snack for late nights since it only takes a minute and a half in the microwave.

P.S. You will test all controllers before the event, correct? I'm okay with you adding or removing screws from the back of the controllers if you believe it will make them easier to use, as I didn't have enough screws for both of them. I think I put three in each one, and there are supposed to be five. So the outer shell could feel "loose" in a player's hand, and they won't be used to that.

Also can I safely guess that no smoking is allowed inside the Tower Place? I'm not a smoker myself but if I do come there with family in a later year, they will need a place to light a cigarette.

And this should be obvious but I think players should turn off phones during a race, otherwise eoJ might get a call from someone back in Austin or Chicago wanting to catch up with him, not aware that he's currently in the middle of an important SMK race.  Cool

I'm glad to say that I'm feeling a lot better today. I went to bed three hours before my usual time last night, and ended up sleeping over 10 hours, with almost constant rumbling coming from my intestinal region. I let out a few farts that would put Wario from Super Smash Bros. Brawl to shame. I let out big, loud, stinky belches every time I sat up in bed before going to the bathroom and shitting out pure liquid (I felt almost like I was peeing out of my ass). I had a crazy amount of gas built up in my belly, and it looks like I've gotten most of that crap out of me by now. I've lost close to five pounds due to all the shitting. Luckily I'm even feeling a bit hungry now, and I definitely need to rehydrate.

...Damn, Karel already PRed at the event?  Shocked

You mean... Antistar... made it to the ASC?  Shocked

I wonder if Dan was ever interested in coming to this ASC as well, but just wasn't able to make it. I never heard him express interest in it, but that's not to say that he wouldn't try to come to a future ASC.

P.S. I forgot to mention that I skidmarked my mattress sheet in my sleep last night, LOL. Of course it got washed. Just think, what if I was in Monroe and that was one of Matt's sheets...  Tongue
I ought to not do this tonight, fortunately.

A little TMI there, Nick. Actually, a lotta TMI.

I took a trip to Australia for the Open back in January, which was planned long before ASC was announced. That trip cost a ton of cash, so spending more on a plane ticket to play a video game wasn't exactly on the agenda. Combine that with a couple other things going on right now that I don't wish to get into here, plus it's my weekend to work and it woulda been too much hassle and too costly to go. It was also my anniversary on Friday. I can't imagine Jessica being overjoyed to spend the weekend watching Mariokart, lol.

Dan are you the one giving those streams those names?  Smiley

I bet you'd be really good at creating strong passwords too. That type of randomness is probably best, especially if you can easily remember it. Who wants to enter, say, 6dG3hnKdM9Zz to sign in, when you can enter caringwoodcock as your password instead? Nobody will guess it because there are thousands and thousands of words in the English language that can be combined haphazardly like this, for millions of possible word combinations, and "caring woodcock" is not a phrase that's not really a common element in the language. Roll Eyes

Nota bene: neither one of those is a password that I currently use anywhere. I do not recommend that you use these, either.

I also recommend giving "non-sequitur" answers whenever a site asks you your mother's maiden name, your high school, etc. as a security question. Preferably something you can see in the same room that your computer is in. Just say you graduated from Garbage Pail Kids high school or that your mother's maiden name is Commodore 64, for example, if you have either of those things in the same room as your computer. That way, if you forget that your password was "caringwoodcock", you'll look around the room and see your Garbage Pail Kids cards and your Commodore 64 and remember that those were the answers you gave to your security questions.
Once again, I don't use these exact answers and neither should you. These are just a suggestion as to how you should pick security question answers.
