How long does it normally take to set a PR???
02/22/18 at 13:52:10

Im concerned because it seems like PRing takes 30000 years. People on streams can get consistent first laps no problem but I'm always failing on the first turn What gives?

Who knows, some people are magical. When I was younger, I’d play for hours on end (12+ hour sessions weren’t a problem for me, especially when motivated). In more recent years it takes less time, I think, but I’m also not willing to put in more than an hour if I’m playing a game. Mental blocks play a large factor, I think, and learning to have a good autopilot (playing while stoned or on acid really helps me with this).

For me it depends on the course. If it's a track I have a good PB on it can sometimes take me around 30 hours, but if it's a track I have room for improvement on it usually takes me around 5-10 hours.

so I only have a few relevant times so ill talk about the tracks I take the most serious; when I sit down and drive a session for maybe 3 hours, maybe 5 hours at most in a session I normally do not PB if it is one of my most optimized tracks. I think perhaps anywhere between 15-30 hours normally for a PB, but it really does depend on how optimized it is. I think I have times I might never beat, no matter how much time you gave me. My advice is just take a break.  Smiley

About 10-15 hours of playtime (not in a single day)
But I'm the kind of person who reaches his skill ceiling once I become WR contender level on a track and I usually take like 100 hours to PR.  Smiley

The better the times, the harder to PR.

It also depends on the overall skill. If you only played LC for months and got regionals, you wont't get a good time on DDR.

It is all about knowing the strats/tech. If you fail your runs on the first turn, you have to ask yourself:
1. Why am I so bad?  Grin
1. Why do I fail there? &
2. How to improve it.

I used to play Custom Tracks. They are short, uncomplitcated and you learn the technical aspects of the game really fast. You also have to watch/read about strats and WRs and try to understand why pro players do it.

To answer the question, I PR everyday (in any form, flaps, best splits, 3lap) and my sessions are 1h - 3h long per day.
In the past I used to player 10h a day but did not PR.
Endless sessions kill your progress
I choose random categories and when I notice that I don't hit my average laps, I pick another track  Smiley

How many hours of grinding does it take to grind out a first WR?

kek
:
depends on goals, skill level, mental clarity.  i can tell myself to go for a .2 cut in an hour but id rather spend 5 hours trying to optimize 1 or 2 laps in a row tbh a lot esp ;lately

Usually it takes me from 15 mins to an hour to PR on any given course... sometimes on less reset-heavy tracks (e.g. rMR) I've managed to improve my best time several times in one grind, though tbf I'm sure many non-elite players have done that Wink

As for how long my sessions tend to go on for, I normally limit myself to no more than 2h45m per day. If I manage to get a satisfactory 3lap+flap on the current course before reaching that mark, I simply move on to the next one I wish to play.

Also:

Couldn't agree with this more. After playing the same course for too long, I just end up getting fatigued, which only makes it more difficult to get a good run. I really don't understand how some people can have 10+ hour grinding sessions...
