I don't know if this has been brought up here before. To my knowledge, these pictures are not very known about. I was browsing for some MKWii pics and I stumbled across the GameSpy website that had some MKW screenshots. Keep in mind, I'm using the dates within the picture file names to make this sort of determination (which I could be totally wrong about). Some pics are super small because the picture is no longer on the website's server but the thumbnail still exists.

First here is a pic of what was probably how the HUD looked like before final touches were made for the production game. Date on pic says 4/10/2008. This is probably wrong considering MKW was publicly released on the same day (japan mkw released first).

Here is a Nintendo or Gamespy employee idling on WiFi. We can tell it's obviously Japan MKW on the default geolocation due to country flag is not configured.

Here is a pic of the MC WW Top Ten from 2/20/2008. It is all Miis with Japanese names. We know that the Staff Ghosts were done on mostly Japan Wiis while a few were done on Taiwanese Wiis. Taiwan Wiis run a Japan System Menu which obv runs Japan MKW. So even though it's all Japanese names on that leaderboard, it's possible some times came from Taiwan Wiis. Staff Ghosts were mostly set around Feb 2008.

Easy to tell the time is 1:29.711 done with Mario , maybe Mach Bike? (hard to tell). Japanese Mii name, no country flag set. Most likely done on Japanese Wii/MKW.


As mentioned earlier, this is probably already known. So I apologize if that's the case. Just thought this was pretty neat to stumble across.

That symbol on 10th place is cool. Reminds me when I went thru a shit ton of hex values and found a bunch of unknown symbols (can only be read by Korean game) such as a old school telephone icon.

I highly doubt the game would have been significantly altered at all after February 2008, though, since the staff probably wouldn't have driven the staff ghosts with the knowledge that they weren't finished developing yet (they were all made within the 3rd and 4th weeks of February).

Happy ten year anniversary to those ghosts!!!

Despite release an april, I can say this.  The current model of mario kart wii that was released publically as been now in existance how we all know and love it for over a decade officially.
