Kart Challenges - They're back again!

KART CHALLENGES!

They are coming back finally!
I've planned on doing challenges about a month ago and they said it was a good idea back then, so now I'm finally going to organize some challenges. I hope you are still looking forward to the challenges.

So there's not really some 'rules' yet. However I will try to keep the same system that the old Kart Challenges thread had. Probably, I'm going to give you three challenges and then you have a month time to get the best out of it. Let me know if you have better ideas.

I'm thinking of posting the first three challenges tomorrow probably, if I have time. Maybe later today if I see that people REALLY REALLY want them to start asap.

And I don't have enough challenges on my own, so if you have challenge ideas then well, I dunno what you should do then. Probably PM me on here or on the discord.
(because like, if you'd say it here then there's a chance people are going to do your challenge instead...)

Anyways I'll be back soon and then we'll have some fun with the challenges!

Greetings from Harambey

Or like missions in mkds

- Get 10 coins in 40 seconds in 1 lap
- perform 10 smt's in 1 lap
- Drive 2 laps within the time limit

This are challenges that are possible in Mk7 if you invent ideas that are right with the track.

KART CHALLENGES: DECEMBER 2017!

I hope you're all excited for the... first Mario Kart 7 challenges! Since... a couple of years  Tongue

Okay I'm not gonna try to do too crazy in the customizing and stuff, here are the three challenges.

- Challenge #1: Frozen on the Frozen Planet
Description: Drive a 3lap race on Rosalina's Ice World, but you are not allowed to steer!
So you can't use anything to steer. You can use A, B, L/X and R, but no steering! After all, it's pretty cold on that planet... you're frozen too. Just as a guideline: My first times were 5'32 and 6'02.

- Challenge #2: Paying for your Music Park visit
Description: Get all 22 coins on Music Park as quick as possible.
Laps do not matter. As soon as you get the last coin, that's what your time is. You can take 1 or 2 laps if you want to, you can even decide to drive backwards (I won't recommend that though).

- Challenge #3: New Year, New Beginning, New Shortcuts?
Description: Come up with a new shortcut!
It has to be a shortcut that pretty much no one tried before, or no one uses because it's probably slower. It's even allowed that it's slower than taking the normal route. As long as it looks like a shortcut, then it counts! The one that impresses me/us the most, will win here.

Have fun with these challenges! I decided to make these monthly challenges, because a week seems to short and rushed, and I think that one month is exactly good for doing up to 3 challenges.
If you have questions and stuff, ask me, if you wanna suggest new challenges, ask me personally, not here, blah blah what else should I say.

Also, if you want to know the rankings anywhere during this month, take a look at Reply #8. I will update the rankings frequently until the month comes to its end.

Good luck with the challenges everyone!

Forgot to mention one thing:

You should always make a video of your time if it's about to get in the top three. Same as with normal TT's, we want some proof of that you did the challenge following the rules.
However if you post your time and that time is at that moment out of the top three then I don't need proof, maybe just a picture or so.

Have fun!

Yeah, should be fine.  I'll ask Bradon to post the challenges in the news, that way they'll get more attention hopefully.  Playing one of these challenges might be the only way to get myself in the news again  Smiley

I will be putting this right under the main intro for the news so everyone will see it. At the end of next month, I will put in the leaderboard(s) like Evan did for the MGmonth.

For the first group of challenges, this is the post to look at for intermediate rankings. Before the challenges ended, always look here, I'll try to upload it frequently.

- Challenge #1: Frozen on the Frozen Planet:
#1: Martijn Veldhuis 6:02:998

- Challenge #2: Paying for your Music Park visit:
#1: Martijn Veldhuis 1:50:375

Challenge #3 (New Year, New Beginning, New Shortcut?) has no 'rankings' because it's not with time or anything, so I can't post intermediate rankings for this  Undecided

I'll try to improve challenge 2 soon. I got it wrong, right?
You don't need to do 3 laps But just getting al coins?

Yup, it's not a 3 lap challenge. Get all the 22 coins, when you get coin number 22 that's when your time is.

Stating the lap-count time for this one because I really can't tell what the exact time is by Harambey's definition (the timer says ~45.8xx when the 22nd coin disappears but the frame blur makes it impossible to see the digits properly Sad)

Announcement!

So you probably remember how I forfeited the challenges very quickly after I revived them. Well, I left the forum shortly after, and I have come back now.
I saw on the Discord that others have continued doing challenges for some time but it has died down too. I'm gonna announce now that I will try to bring them back once more and hopefully keep them alive for a long long time!

- So what are my ideas for the Kart Challenges?
Well, I've got quite a bunch of ideas. First of all, I can realize that it was arguably not the best idea to do them weekly or monthly only and after that week or month, the challenge was closed.
- The changes
So the first change is that I'm not going to make challenges temporary like they used to be. Instead, a challenge can be tried forever and I'll update leaderboards once every so often. Kinda like how regular MK7 time trial submissions go right now: There's a challenge and anybody can try it any time, and leaderboards will be updated occasionally.

The second thing is that I'm going to group Kart Challenges per cup. I'm thinking of making eight separate threads - one for each cup - and in each thread, the top post will contain rules/guidelines, and also all the challenges for the tracks of that cup. The post below that will have leaderboards.
I have my own challenge ideas already, so in the beginning I'll start by giving you guys three challenges per track, starting with Toad Circuit, taking you through all the nitro tracks and then the retro tracks and thus ending with SNES Rainbow Road.

- Can we submit Challenge Ideas too?
The answer is YES! Feel free to submit your own ideas and I'll add them if others like your idea.  Smiley

Links to the Kart Challenges threads per cup:
will come whenever I have made the threads

Furthermore, I'll give you an idea of how I will describe challenges with this short example:
Track: Music Park
Challenge: Finish as fast as you can
Description: Your task is to try and get the fastest 3lap time possible.
Restrictions: This challenge has no restrictions, which means you can use any kart combination and you can use any routes you want.
Proof?: Your time only needs picture proof, unless your time would become the fastest time and more than five people submitted a time.

A quick comment on proof: Some challenges will need video proof for 1st place (just like the example says, this rule will only be true when there have been enough submissions) and picture proof for spots 2-3 and maybe the other players too. Some challenges will only need picture proof, but because most challenges require you to take certain paths, these challenges will occur rarely. However, a challenge with only a kart combo restriction is an example of a challenge that only needs picture proof, as the kart parts will be shown in the picture.

So that's it! I'm gonna work on the first thread now, which will be the Mushroom Cup thread. There, I will reveal the first three challenges for you guys to try out on Toad Circuit!
Good luck and have fun

I can understand why you suggest this. But if I were to put them all in one thread, then I would need so many posts just for the descriptions of the challenges, and another bunch for all the leaderboards. It would take up a whole page.

Making threads by cups keeps it organized as well. Otherwise I'm afraid it would turn into one big mess, that's why I decided to do it like this. Structure is very important for me, and structure is very important to make the challenges last for a long while. Look at all the previous tries of me and of others. It lacked a good structure and a good set of guidelines.
Thanks for your suggestion but there will be separate threads for the Kart Challenges.
