Closest one to me *was* Miami, which I wasn't planning to go to anyway, though that's moot since it's been cancelled...maybe if they decide to hold the Miami one in Atlanta to make up for it, I'll go! I doubt it though, most likely is they won't replace that event and invite you (or a runner up who beats you) or some twitch/youtube personality in place of the spot reserved for the Miami winner.

Well, it's not me anymore... great times Jackson and Racer! I really should have kept trying to improve my time lol.

Hopefully they'll reschedule the Miami event and you can go!

Congrats! Wonder if somebody declined, or if they decided to not re-schedule Miami and you're filling that spot. It's driving me crazy not knowing if I'll get a chance to try to qualify or not.

He made another post later and then deleted both of them. It seems he was not supposed to say anything until Nintendo makes it official. While I hope he's simply replacing another winner who can't make it to the championship, it really seems like he's filling in for the Miami spot Sad

Well, it's official, they're not going to re-schedule Miami:

Really bummed about this...I came into this with virtually no background in time trialing or MK7 and had to practice a ton to get to the point where I was hitting 1:14's. I was bringing my 3DS to work and practicing on my lunch break, then practicing in the evenings every chance I could get (often as late as 2am to make progress, despite having work bright and early the next morning). Competing in a big video game tournament like this has always been a dream of mine, and since I'm good at Mario Kart in general, this was probably as good of a shot as I would ever have. If I could have gone to the qualifier but just wasn't good enough, then fine, but it sucks to not even get a chance to try. Ughhhh I'm so frustrated by all of this. I wish there was something we could do, but it's over.

I would expect them to do the same thing they did last year - which is invite well known community members and Internet celebrities to compete.

Welp, I guess that's it for me. Thanks to all of you who so graciously helped a noob like me actually get to a competitive time. If nothing else, I feel very accomplished to have gotten as far as I did. Here's to hoping they do another NWC in a year or two and the qualifying game is actually something I'm good at.

I really think John Numbers has a great shot to repeat as champ, If I were a betting man, I'd bet on him. However, I want a karter to win of course. Cole especially, because he's Canadian Wink

I said the same thing to my wife last night, that if I were a betting man, I'd bet on him. He seems to be a good all-around gamer, plus he's older so has more experience with older games. No offense to any of the "karters", but my impression is that they're mostly just good at Mario Kart. I don't expect most of them to have the same range as John Numbers and be able to perform well in tons of different games.

I'm not going to watch today, I have things to do and it's really long, but I'll definitely watch it on Youtube later when I can skip through all the slow parts. When I really thought I had a strong chance of qualifying, I had already mapped out which games I thought they would use for the Championship so that I could practice them ahead of time. I'm curious to see how accurate my guesses were.
