General Rules:
§ When it is a player’s time to compete in the Local Event, they will be allowed to play up to two
consecutive time trial races (each, a “Race”).
§ A player may attempt more than 2 Races so long as time permits during the Local Event;
however, after two consecutive Races, the player must go to the back of the line and can only
attempt additional Races when and if the player next makes it to the front of the line.
§ There will be one winner from each age group at each Local Event location for a total of sixteen
winners (two per Local Event location), named after both days of the Local Event.
§ The player at each Local Event location that achieves the fastest trial time for their age group
will be determined the winner.
§ In the event of a tie, the tied player who achieved the faster trial time in their other Race(s) will
be determined the winner.
§ Players are decided as winners based on their fastest time or by the tiebreaker.

The cutoff time for 13+ is 1:18.066 for because that's the best 10th place time so far (Chicago), and it's impossible to know what the final ranking is below that. Same reasoning applies to 12 and under.

I can do the pasta very consistently, in my mind it is easier than using slick wheels because you hop at that same exact spot anyways, its easier to stay on the wall because you have better handling and you are moving slower

Obviously it will depend on how experienced the player is and how much practice they put into it

I'm having 2 main issues currently. I can get on the wall consistently now, but I can't get around the whole turn in a drift without falling back onto the track or into the lava. Also, the SMT at the very end of lap 1 eludes me

I would watch to see if others are using the glitch and getting away with it.  If not, I would ask the Nintendo rep something along the lines of "Am I allowed to jump into the lava?"  I wouldn't say the word "glitch"

If this event is for US and Canada, why aren't there any locations to participate in Canada?

Is anyone here going to the LA / Torrance one? I'm planning on going to that one. I did give my MK7 game away years ago though, so I'm trying to borrow it back haha

I don't think pasta strat will be an issue here, but the main issue will be consistency. You only get 2 tries before you have to go to the back of the line, but should you come up to the front again, you'll get 2 more. Fighting the urge to reset after a wall bonk will be important, too, as the tiebreaker will be the time you got on your other run.

I've gotten my time in practice down to a low 1:20. The expert staff ghost uses the glider ramp, but I assume the problem with getting the SMT before the line assumes one is using the pasta strat on the turn before. I go outside and maybe clip through the mud (shrooming if necessary) and I can get it fairly often.

My current PB is 1:18.717, but given a few more days of practice, probably a 1:17. Pasta strat really isn't too hard, especially if you don't try to do the whole section. Just cutting off a corner saves a bit.

I'm having trouble with the glider boost on laps 2/3. Seems as soon as I get it, I'm forced to land

@spokes, you should make a leaderboard in your first post so people know approximately what times to shoot for!
