i was going to make this post in the general forum, but this is where i started my MK career and i figured i'd keep it here.
it's really cool to see activity here after all this time. this game is 20+ years old now, and people are still keeping this community alive after all this time. some of the people still playing were here when i started and that tells me the new players coming in are getting good advice (i'm looking at you finn!)
i honestly wish i had the motivation and the time to play like i used to. so many goals left untouched. the time that i would've spent breaking 1:20 on KTB has been put towards advancing my career, or buying a home.... blah blah blah, adult shit. there are so many times that i wanted to put up and then i just... moved on. story of a lot of lives here, i think. and to still see people playing, posting new PRs, new WRs, it's incredible. i really feel it's a testament to the community that is in place, and to the drive to constantly push what we as players are capable of and what the game is capable of putting out in return.
so this is my charge to the players that are still here: keep the community alive. i love this place; always have, always will. a good chunk of my formative adult years were spent on this very forum, and i like to think i still have friends here, even if we haven't spoken in years. i'd love to come back in another 10 years and still see this community thriving (not that i'm gonna wait 10 years between visits). a game that was such a large part of my life is proving to have an impact on new players after all this time and that tells me it's something worth investing some time in. it's not just the game; it's the learning process, it's seeking advice from someone more experienced than you, it's learning to talk to people and share ideas and to discover new ones. once you become the experienced player, it's teaching the newer players what's what. becoming the mentor and taking pride in their progress. i'm not sure i ever got to that particular point.... and i kinda regret that, knowing that i don't come here often anymore. i'm a teacher/instructor in other aspects of my life and it would be really cool on a personal level to know that i've helped someone reached King or Legend rank via my own advice.
tl;dr i love this place. y'all should love it too and keep it going.
and finally, to those that might remember Jason Whalls, you should always remember that kart = chicks.
happy karting my friends,
