What surprises me most is that in all box images I have seen (US and EU) the controller ports aren't usb like they were for the nes classic. Not sure if they are full size or smaller versions of the actual snes ports from looking though.

Probably not, because there are save states...

Personally, I will buy the mini SNES just for this game Cheesy Kiss Cool Shocked Cheesy Cheesy
I will also try to buy the Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Famicom version with some change about the games: https://www.nintendo.co.jp/corporate/release/en/2017/170627.html and I ♥ the original Super Famicom.
And this time we get 2 controllers in the box so I'll keep one as normal and will make the other a controller pro-NBT Smiley

Honestly, if I were in charge, I would not count times on Wii VC. I think only times achieved on a SNES should be counted. But, that could just be because I'm a purist.

I'm adding this zoom, you can clearly see there is a drawer to plug the "USB" controllers behind it.

I 100% agree with you and I'm still surprised that times made on the Wii VC are allowed on the SMK PP just like I said there 2 years ago, and I'm adding because between TTing SMK on Wii, or Wii U, or New 3DS, and soon on the SNES mini-- it is on the Wii that it's still the best way for cheating without being caught, so it is the worse for us (purists) Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley

I have an original SNES I got from my dad but the only games I have for it are Mega Man X and Super Scope 6 and yes I have the adapter and the super scope but I have lost the actual super scope Sad. My dad might have more games in my grandma's attic. I'll have to go over there and check. As far as I know he possibly has Super Mario World and Super Mario Kart. I may have had 2 controllers at one point but now I just have one. Playing Mega Man X on an original SNES was amazing. I would love to buy a SNES Classic for the games I don't have on my Wii or on any collection discs which narrows it down to everything but Super Mario World, Super Mario Kart, Super Mario RPG, Mega Man X , and Kirby Super Star. I played Earthbound on an emulator at one point but that was years ago. Also playing some of these games would be awesome! I have other SNES games like Kirby's Dream Land 3, Super Scope 6, and Mega Man X2 but they aren't on the SNES Mini. Probs won't be able to get one because Nintendo will only sell them from launch till the end of 2017 and that means they'll be sold out the day after basically.

The PAL/European SNES looks exactly like the Japanese one (Super Famicom/SFC) but it has the same games the US SNES has. Many people say the US SNES is the inferior looking one but to me it is better.
Cons: It isn't as sleak looking
It isn't as colorful

Pros: It has more than just gray/grey on the console it uses a nice amount of purple on the console's power and reset buttons which gives it a nice touch and draws attention to the console unlike the other version which has almost entirely shades of gray with the only other color being the four colors of the Windows' knockoff symbol

It has a nicer color use on the controller. The japanese and European one has individual colors on all the buttons but it makes the thing look like a freaking Windows controller or a child's toy when it is supposed to be for people of all ages and it is actually a video game console while the North American one has neutral purple on the A and B buttons and light purple on the X and Y buttons which looks very appealing)

It has the same type of notch for the Power and Reset buttons. The other one has a goofy thing where the Power button has this weird mini wall/raise on it while the reset button doesn't. Why would that be there and if it is there why isn't it on the reset button?
It has a more interesting looking logo. The Japanese version has small boring font on it's logo but the NA one has big eye popping font for the Super Nintendo part and the Entertainment System part is highlighted which gives off a neat appearance to the whole logo making the Super Nintendo part stick out even more like it's saying" Hey! It's super and improved and it's from your good old brand Nintendo!".

It does a good job shoving in your face what it is so you know it's a SNES. Going back to my last point they did a good job advertising the console by making the Super Nintendo part bigger which are the two most important words in the name of the console.  The japanese people had to have bought a FC/NES first to know what it was or have any real will to buy it with advertising like that. I mean the Super part doesn't stick out at all which is a real selling point like it's telling you it's the younger and more advanced brother of the previous console. Also the word famicom is really hidden away on the logo. It is the last word you'd think to look at. It's almost as if Nintendo was embarrased of the console's own name. I guess Genesis does what Nintendon't because Sega's 16-Bit console was so well rounded/good looking that they kept the design for both the 1st and 2nd versions of the Japanese Genesis/Mega Drive the same in America and Europe with only minor tweaks in the international models. The American logo was so much better that even the European SNES kept the same looking logo and the EU SNES took basically EVERYTHING from the SFC. If they wanted the keep the name Super Famicom for the EU release they would have at least made the logo better and done the same for the NES but they didn't did they? Because the name Famicom makes no sense! It's not a Family Computer Nintendo! It's a video game console!

Those are just a few reasons I find the North American SNES to be the superior one in my opinion.

I'm surprised Mega Man X2 and 3, Kirby's Dream Land 3, and the Donkey Kong Country 2 and 3 weren't on the remake. Also I like me some Super Mario All Stars where is that? And Chrono Trigger? So many good games missing...... maybe they'll be DLC

The 4 colours do look really nice (especially on the controller), maybe that's why Microsoft decided to copy it for the 1992 release of windows 3.1

Never heard anyone try to defend the ugly purple box design before (every American that I've spoken to about it has said they wished they got the same style as the pal/jpn releases). I guess it's a matter of taste.

The EU/JP Design is nothing to laugh at but to me it always seemed to out of place. When I think of 90's I see the US design and when I think of the 2000's I see the other design. It just seemed to immature to me. The multi colored buttons look fine and the layout wasused for many controllers nowadays but I think the purple looks better because it further groups up A with B and X with Y like it just fits. Also I hate it when people call something ugly because it is their opinion. You can have your own opinion and there is certainly nothing wrong with doing so but don't act like it is fact. Just because you didn't grow up with it doesn't mean it is worse than the other or better. If it is your opinion please say so because if not you are basically badmouthing a design and acting like it really is that bad in everyone's opinion. It may be the less liked one but is it by any means ugly? No. Just outdated. Just like I'm sure people like Puyo Puyo over Kirby's Avalanche/Kirby's Ghost Trap and Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine because they grew up in Japan. Would you call a US accent uglier sounding than a British or Australian accents?

Well I was around at the time the snes was released and everyone over here was relieved when it was first announced that the snes we would get would be based on the sfc design and not the US design (I had friends with both sfc and US snes imports and I don't think anyone liked the US versions looks better even back then).

Of course it's opinion, beauty always is. But it is also consensus.

If you do a google search on "US snes ugly" you get a lot of results about how the US snes is ugly.
If you do a search on "pal snes ugly" or "EU snes ugly" you get the same results about how the US snes is ugly compared to the pal/EU design.

For me the benefit of having different coloured buttons was that it was easier to explain how to play games to your friends, "press the red button" etc. nobody remembered which was round the buttons were in terms if A/B/X/Y.

One thing I've noticed on the NA controller is that while the A and B button face out like all the buttons on the EU and JP controllers, the X and Y buttons face in almost as if they were made to fit your thumbs  Smiley which in my opinion when it comes to comfortable buttons and distinguishing features gives the NA controller a little boost in quality. Also not to be mean but aren't the ABXY letter right next to the buttons? It couldn't be too hard for them to figure out which buttons are which could it? If you don't get wha I mean with the X and Y buttons look at the NA controller's X and Y buttons closely in an image. I would be grateful for either form of the SNES tbh. I'd say the debate over whether the NA version is better or the EU/JP version is reminds me of the Sonic CD soundtrack argument people have. I just say both are good and let it be  Smiley but in my opinion at first I agreed the SFC version looked better but then when I started noticing finer details and touches in the NA SNES I changed my mind.

Well, about all of the buttons it looks like the original and official logo of the Super Famicom (JP):

And then applied to the Super Nintendo Entertainment System logo (EU):

But not to the Super Nintendo Entertainment System logo (NA):

Is it like no color/soup for you? Smiley

Not really, because the origin of the purple colors comes from the early US Super NES designs by Lance Barr:

https://snescentral.com/article.php?id=0877

But keep in mind that the Super Famicom was created before the Super NES Wink
