New banner for the MK8 site?

I remember the banner for the MK8 site was a minor complaint in the early days. Not meant as a jab to Alex (if it wasn't for him there may not be any at all), but the one we've had for years is easily the most boring we have out of the group of mk64.com sites.

With the new site, and the launch of MK8 Deluxe, it could be a good opportunity to change it to a more shiny, appealing one!

I wouldn't mind doing it myself, but I already have other responsabilities to deal with this close to the game launch, and I'm no graphic designer anyway (even though I do have Photoshop). However I have an idea about a simple but nice looking banner, and that could be within the reach of a few people :

-Logo like the one for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, except with the "Deluxe" replaced with "Players' Page" with the same typography
-Artwork of one of the characters on the opposite side... I'd say the Bowser one as he's an heavyweight which are used on time trials
-Rainbow checkerboard rims on top and bottom
-White+Light-gray cherckerboard background for the bright theme / Black+Dark-gray for the dark theme

Feel free to bring your own ideas for the banner design, or suggestions about what I just proposed. After all, this is a chance for you to have direct input on the site design. Most importantly, if you think you are up to the task of making the new banner, let us know, we'd love to work with you!

It's not the banner you want Mick, for now, but just about the little thumbnail, the one we see on the MB:

It's just a prototype, 'cause I find the original picture a bit sad now Sad

The idea of my proto' is to have a nice pic' of Mario plus both Mario Kart 8 & Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and of course Players' Page.
I can adjust/change whatever you want, I only use Paint and I can do better but I would prefer anyone who uses Photoshop for doing this job. Kiss

At least tell me if the idea is good or bad.

And no, it's not "MK88" Grin

So I tried to make 2 new banners myself. I did it rather quickly, don't see this as 100% finished. But please let me know what you think.

I made 2 banners: my idea was one for the mk8 charts and one for the mk8dx charts. I made both of them in 1920x200 pixels

Nice job. That combined banner looks amazing. This is my personal opinion but could the text that says "players page" be moved closer to where the 2 designs meet?

Any chance you could make it 1920 pixels wide? That way it fits onto a 1080p monitor.

Edit: Can you change it so it says "Players' Page" and not "Player's Page" (note the position of the apostrophe) Tongue

I would suggest to give an outer glow to the '8', especially in the design where you used my idea. It's disappearing in the background, and I tend to read Mario Kart Players' Page, not noticing the 8.
