Better late than never?
04/19/17 at 07:07:22

Hey!

This is Jascha. The real one. Not Jascha Robertson (some of you might remember that from a while back  Smiley) or some of the other fakes I’ve encountered. If you want proof, I can message you via my youtube account jascha55, once I find the password to that.

Anyways with that out of the way, I just wanted to say some things.

I’ve been lurking this board since mid-2008 (when I was still 10 years old  Grin), all the way to early 2014. Back when this game had high activity (2008-2011) I used to check this forum (and mariokartwii.com) multiple times a week. Then I slowly started to check less often, where I was checking only once every 2 months by early 2014. I wanted to make an account here and join the PP right after I took the WR from Brett on rPG, but a lot of stuff came up in real life and I forgot to.

After subbing 2:12 on rDKJP, I decided that I would be finally done with this game. I would like to think that I made a name for myself with CM, rDKJP, first 2:00 sub with manual on rPG, etc. Nintendo was also shutting down off the wifi for the Wii during that year, so even more reason to leave this behind and focus on other stuff.

So I did that. I stopped checking the board, and didn’t touch MKW since mid-2014. That is, until last weekend, where I had an urge to check the current state of affairs of the game.

On Friday night and Saturday, I was binge-reading through all the posts and threads that I missed. It was nice to see old names still setting WRs like Cole, Alex, Niyake, Sword, Chouy, Ruso. There were a LOT of surprises to me as well, most notably Fox with the double-digit WR count (wow!  Shocked) and Liam being one of the current top time trialers (I remember when you used to go by LAsh09 on youtube, and commented on a lot of the early MKW videos).

I checked all the current WR runs and holders too, there are a lot of unfamiliar names to me. Of course, I also saw that suiryu was the WR holder of CM (I thought that if he would be a WR holder today, it would be on rGV2). I saw his run and I was very envious of his insane escalators. Back when I was battling Chaos I never managed to string together a clean run like suiryu’s.

I wanted to get back CM. Part of me said to just not try at all. I mean, I haven’t touched the game in 3 years, and CM in 6 years, since I got 1:56.821 after beating Chaos. Not to mention suiryu’s run is incredibly strong for a track like CM. I still gave it a shot, at least maybe I could get #2 WW since I was #5 WW already.

I downloaded CTGP on Monday and practiced some strats for a bit. Surprisingly, I was hitting 38.7xx first laps already by the end of my time trial session. The next day (Tuesday) I got the WR back lol. I was thinking that maybe I would be grinding it for at least a week before I saw any real progress. I guess rust doesn’t really affect me  Roll Eyes

Originally, I was going to make this post as a “help” topic because when I tried to upload my ghost to CTGP it wouldn’t work. Maybe the servers were having problems? Anyways I wanted this to come as a surprise but eventually it uploaded and people found out, so there goes that  Smiley

For my latest CM run, as MattL said in the WR topic, the lap 3 transition (perfect chain and low bannister trick) literally made the run. I still have no idea how it was a .7 but whatever. Lap 2 was weak but it doesn’t matter too much because if you go too fast you need to dodge the car at the end of lap 2. Back when I was still battling Chaos I managed to fail multiple 38.7xx, 38.8xx runs where I had to double hop like in the lap 1 ending of old 2008 CM WRs. You need to wheelie ASAP after the turn too or else you won’t get the chain (it will end in the air after the stairs right before the first escalator) making all the time gained meaningless and the last lap being terrible. I’ll try for more, hopefully a low .5 or high .4, but the escalators are a massive pain in the ass.

Also super super late congrats to:
1.      Thomas, for beating my spiral cut DKJP. I could never seem to get the perfect entry consistently, and if I did, I failed the shroomspot lol. It sucks that the new glitch was discovered  Sad
2.      Shaun, for beating my 1000+ day old 1:56.821 on CM. I always seemed to have terrible lap 3s (I think it was because of the double miniturbo strat), not anymore though  Wink
3.      Darragh, for getting rPG. Your run is very strong even with the wide turns lap 1 and 3. I’m most likely not going to get it back even if I learn the proper lap transitions. It’s yours for a longggg time, I don’t think I have the patience or motivation anymore to grind that track.

I’ll provide a timesheet and join the PP. Should’ve done this years ago. I’m so sorry. Give me a few weeks though since I have to study for exams; maybe around mid-May I’ll have everything ready.

You can use this thread to ask me any MKW-related questions too. I barely interacted with the community after I quit warring with AE7 following our win against FV in the WCL first division in 2009 (?). There’s probably a lot of stuff you guys want to know.

I apologize if this post came off as arrogant, it was not my intention.

Hey, Jascha! Cool to see you having finally joined the site, since inevitably, a lot of mystery has surrounded you as a player due to your relatively minimal community interaction. Anyway, it's probably worth asking this before anything else - do you plan on playing any more MKW soon? (be it CM or any of your other tracks)

Wow Jascha I did not expect to ever see you speak. Let alone on the boards o.o

Thank you for the super late congrats. Smiley

Trying to beat Your DKJP No-SC has been an absolute nightmare, I have tried so hard through out 2015 and a bit of 2016-2017. I could never seem to pull a good run together. I have some so close many many times but I always messed up the lap 3 shroom. I think a 2:11.5 is very doable Roll Eyes

I've always wondered what your best splits are for this category Huh

Thanks dude, that actually means quite a lot coming from you haha. I'd hoped to have obsoleted that .415 by now, but I got sidetracked for a couple weeks (Blame that new Zelda game Roll Eyes).

Your run still looks insane to me, almost half a decade later, despite some of it's shortcomings. I guess your driving style there just has a certain kind of elegance to it that mine lacks. I'm envious.  Smiley

Welcome back! Seeing your name again is a big throwback to 2009 etc! Grin
Now that you're back, will you be active on TTing again? Also, the war scene is quite active nowadays.  Any interest in clan warring again?

Jascha! Awesome.

No worries, Suiryu can be arrogant though, last stream I watched (where him and I got in an argument too), he was boasting about how good he was.  Grin

Keep that CM!

You're the only one that can take down Fox imo, will be fun to see if you desire the battle.

Hope to see you on here more!

Damn im fucking loving this activity, so awesome to see you hear and finally speak jascha! I really enjoyed reading your post and throwbacks to cool things in mkw history. I also have always thought it's super cool seeing Liam come from being That guy who always posted a comment on every wr video with his family guy icon to the brilliant tt'er he is today (i do remember a post of his ages back where he did say he'd quit going for af and was only going for wrs now though lol).

Good luck with your upcoming exams too

Especially with the new strats Infi just used, people are now going to be too fast for the 2nd lap 2 car. What I'm thinking is that you actually take the last corner a little wide on purpose in order to release your MT sooner so you can get a wheelie up the small set of stairs. You'd probably lose about .05 by going wide but I think you'd make up way more than that by being able to re-wheelie, even if you get a half. I think this is definitely something worth looking into.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys!  Smiley

A lot of the questions asked were similar so I'll address them all here:

I do plan on playing some more! I'll try to take CM down as much as possible (no promises though). I also want to improve some of my other times (maybe sub 1:42 on rMR?) and get back on some WW tops like rBC (with Daisy ofc, I used to be on WW tops with Funky; this track is pretty nice to TT apart from getting random bumps and missing the chain wheelie on the first bridge Smiley )

I have no interest in clan warring unfortunately. If I did want to war, it would have to be with the guys from Evolution/AE7/Team Canada way back in 2008/2009. Most of them quit MKW / moved on though  Smiley

The main reason though is just me letting you all know that I'm not dead. Also for a way for any of you to contact me since I'm more likely to see stuff here than on youtube. And I still feel somewhat guilty for not joining years ago; a lot of you kept asking but I was still like 13-14 and just didn't care enough  Smiley

Haha, I was wondering when you were going to take it, as you have the potential for it. I didn't know you were having a lot of trouble! At least it lasted 1000 days  Smiley. And yeah, the shroomspot is so stupid, even after all this time I'm still very inconsistent with it. Sometimes I wish I can just fast forward to the shroomspot because it really doesn't matter how good you drive the rest of the track when a perfect shroom can save so much time (and likewise, a bad shroom ruins the whole run).

From what I remember, my best splits were something like 43.87x, 43.6, 43.6. A high 43.6 too. I've never gotten a 43.5 ever. I saw the BKS thread and you have me beat on all laps.

Thanks! I'll keep this in mind next time. Honestly my heart dropped when it wasn't uploaded immediately, since I thought the run wasn't saved or something. Then I checked my SD card and it was there so I figured it was just a delay.  Smiley

I watched your comparison video and he gains a lot by using the first boost panel in the car section... Didn't think that was faster (I don't race ghosts when I TT), thanks for that. I also have to learn how to do side tricks consistently with WiiChuck... This might take a while

Come on holmes. It doesn't count when you're typing it with a tone of sarcasm. Same with your praise of my comments on FERRARISORRY, they were ALL negative except toward Revolution when it came to Mario Kart Wii.

Just sayin, I paved that shit early before you fools left me in the dust with that wheelie after chain chomp yard, the mini-turbos in the gopher area and the superman lap 1/2. I'mma get 1'59 before I shut this shit down though.

But you wanted to praise that current WR holder who wasn't even around when the competition was at its most involved number of people-wise. As well as praising old dusty players like S. Tanney and N. Meade.

And yeah, I was Rapist in that war. I knew you knew that shit. You playin dumb holmes  Grin

We were in Evolution together before I joined Evul, remember  Angry

AE7 didn't really lose the war by much though, it was like 30-40 points  Grin

You guys lost because you used NEO, a toxic faggot who is all so selfish to make his team do worse for his own point-gain  Grin

I know you're the GOAT of CM.

But you should get rPG back. We need the WR to stay North American  Smiley

Also, you can sub CM with ease, I can tell. So do it!

Edit: Typed this before I see you lost the WR  Grin

You'll still get him with ease with those strats!
