Final Season Ranks will be determined solely by the number of points each competitor finishes with.

In the case of a tie in a Regular Season Race, both players will be awarded the same score.

In the case of a tie outside top 8 it will not be relevant for playoffs or payout so it will be determined by amount of points acquired from races both players were in for a head to head score, if it is still tied it will be determined by highest placing in a quarterly, if still tied, the number of times the placing was reached in a quarterly, if the players are still tied it will be determine by highest placing in a monthly, followed by the number of times that placing was reached in a monthly. If still tied it will be determined by highest placing in a weekly, followed by the number of times that placing was reached. If it is still tied it will be determined by best time reached over the year, comparing circuit personal best times. If it is still tied Overall PB will be compared. If it is still tied both players will compete in a head to head race against each other the weekend following the end of the regular season. If neither player shows up, they will be listed as a tie.

In the case of a tie in the rankings inside of top 8. A playoff race will be played to determine the rank the following weekend. If that race is a tie, both players will continue racing until there is no tie.

After all the the Regular Season Standings are finished being determined, half the total prize pot will be split to the top 8 in a format looking like:
1st. 40%
2nd. 20%
3rd. 15%
4th. 10%
5th. 6%
6th. 4%
7th. 3%
8th. 2%

The playoffs will be in a 4 round 8 player race format that eliminates 2 players each week.
Note: tiebreakers only occur if 2 players have the same time in the regular playoffs round. Otherwise the ranking of the player will be determined by the lowest time from the race.

October 8th, Regular Season Sudden Death Race/Week Off

October 15th, Playoffs Round 1 (top 8)

October 22nd, Playoffs Sudden Death Race/Week Off

October 29th, Playoffs Round 2 (top 6)

November 5th, Playoffs Sudden Death Race/Week Off

November 12th, Playoffs Round 3 (top 4)

November 19th, Playoffs Sudden Death Race/ Week Off

November 26th, Grand Finals

In the event of a tie in any of the above races (between eliminated/ or to eliminate a racer), they will be played until no tie has occurred.

After playoffs have been played, and top 8 determined, the remaining half of the pot will be distributed based on the playoff standings in this format:
1st. 40%
2nd. 20%
3rd. 15%
4th. 10%
5th. 6%
6th. 4%
7th. 3%
8th. 2%

Preventing Cheating/Stream

With some voicing concern over possible cheating in a competition for money, I’ve decided on a couple rules that should do the trick if enforced well.

STREAM REQUIREMENTS
-All runs must be streamed on twitch and submitted after in a designated thread.
Note: Make sure you have twitch setup to archive vods, so you can easily highlight the vods, and send us the links after the run is over.
Note: You may be asked to upload your race vod to a community youtube account so viewers can see past races.
-You will be asked to do a random simple task before each run to prove it is not pre recorded
Note: You may be asked to start the stream up to half an hour before race time so everyone can be checked before the race starts.

Extras:
-All streams will be streamed to a private server where 4 of the racers will be broadcasted to 1 twitch channel. In the case of the event of acquiring sponsorship, streaming to twitch from your own account will be banned and could lead to disqualification from the circuit. The private server details will be determined at a later time.

ENFORCERS
Any trusted member agreed on by the community who does not participate in the pro circuit can enforce the above requirements.

Pot Bonus

HOW WILL IT BE GENERATED?
There are 2 ways the Pot Bonus will be able to be generated.
Funded by donations inside the community… Not appealing, I know… might be our best bet though.
Sponsors, yep… we esports now… or hopefully. The goal would be to send a proposal similar to this one to various sponsors in order to attempt to make some kind of deal where we advertise them on our streams, or add them to the title of the entire event… stuff like that. In exchange we would hope they could provide a fairly large prize pot.

HOW LARGE WILL IT BE?
-If the pot bonus is donation funded, $100 would be the goal.
-If the pot bonus was sponsor funded, might be able to make the deal for a $1,000 bonus.

Payment

-WHO WILL HOLD THE MONEY UNTIL PAYOUT?
If the payout is provided by the community, the money would be held through the year by a trusted member, probably Jonesy if he’s up for it. If it’s funded by a sponsor the sponsor would most likely hold onto it.
-WHEN WILL THE PAYMENTS OCCUR?
The payments would most likely occur after playoffs are finished during the December off month before next year starts.
-HOW WILL THE PAYMENT BE RECEIVED?
Probably Paypal, unless there are objections?

I love this idea and I hope it can actually get off the ground.  4:00 PM EST will not work for me Saturdays though.  I can imagine that scheduling everyone for the same time every Saturday will be a major hurdle with this!  Maybe the idea can be re-structured to make it work somehow.  (Actually Sunday would work better for me but I don't know how others feel...)

Yeah, the schedule is definitely not final yet and I'm sure we can find something everyone agrees on!

Ah, yeah sure. Probably going to change it to Sundays then unless there are objections. One idea Beck gave me is if we can't find a date/time that works for everyone we can do a Saturday and Sunday race, and just merge the times together like it was one race.

The first reactions on Discord weren't that positive, but I didn't read the whole conversation. Would be interesting if enough people join, not mainly because of the amount of money going into the pot, simply because everyone needs a stream setup to take part and I'm not sure how many known players actually have one. Of course I like to join if cheating prevention is enforced, how do we agree on a certain time though? I can already say that I won't have the same schedule for each of these weekends and Jan-Sep is a huge period. Could be too long for some people, I guess. Nevertheless I hope this idea will bring players back to activity, maybe a few new guys to our community and some fun Wink.
@Lewis: Did you post this elsewhere, too?

The length of this might be too much for a first go-round but I think it's a great idea. What about the first discord reactions weren't positive?

Maybe for the first season this could be shortened to a couple months and a smaller pot.

As I said, I didn't follow the whole 400-500 posts which showed up in the channel history, somebody just told me about Lewis' ideas about a sponsor and to increase the interest in the game by cash prizes, I replied that a 20 year-old game doesn't attract many people, others agreed. The discussion about money pulling in some cheaters was also part of what I saw.

I occasionally watch Age of Empires streams on twitch. Despite only getting slightly more viewers than Beck does for skips runs, they manage to run cash tournaments and circuits all the time. I agree that the game is 20 years old but plenty of people have great memories of the game and I think that skips races are very interesting to watch and could actually bring in a big audience if marketed correctly. I prefer playing time trials but I think there's no question that skips are much more entertaining to watch than time trials and I think there is a market for viewers out there that hasn't been tapped into. Clint Stevens gets more than 4000 viewers sometimes for his Ocarina of Time streams and much less for any other game he streams.

Sounds like an opportunity for us to follow a similar path and reach more viewers of different games, but I have some doubts if enough people like to invest the time and effort. I prefer time trials like you and obviously this gets less viewers. Maybe Beck or somebody else likes to work on a concept to start with a small group of players but still reach viewers out there on Twitch. I rarely watch any gaming streams and have no comparison at all, so I'm not the one to ask for good marketing strategies if this game has any chance to "succeed" in a manner like you said about some other retro games.
Edit: I wished we had more active players or a longer speedrun tradition, I would trade off 100 or 1000 viewers against 10 players because the more people in the chat, the more trash talk you get.

Like I said earlier, if the first season of this was shortened to a couple months at first, it might work much better. Would be easier to commit if it was shorter and get more players.

You, me, Beck, Dotman, maybe Moll, maybe Flippy, maybe Jones, maybe "John Dude", maybe SuperViper, maybe Kyle, maybe Jake, maybe Kyman, maybe even someone like Almolicious, I am sure I am forgetting others as well and could get more players from the TT site interested. We could definitely find enough people to make this happen.

Think about how many people pay to watch Nascar races where drivers just turn left for 400 laps (and I say that as a fam of Nascar). People love to watch races, that is very different from time trials. There could be a really big audience for this...

Re: Audience, Schedule, and Discord negativity.
I think there's definitely a pretty good market we could tap into for sure. Right now Beck is the only person who consistently streams and I mean he manages to get into triple digit viewers quite a lot I think. If we had 10 players start consistently streaming skips races for cash? That would definitely boost the mk64 ratings on twitch a lot. As far as shortening the season? I'm not sure how I feel about that, no one is going to be able to race every time, but as long as people race the quarterly and monthly races it should be fine. I just like the idea of 10+ players consistently streaming mk64 every week for 9 months and I think a longer schedule is the best way to increase the mk64 exposure people get in twitch. Including playoffs it's an 11 month schedule and I think as a viewer it would be interesting to watch the entire thing through. As far as the negativity on Discord goes I think it was more of that I hadn't had a proposal laid out for people to look at, also my original plan was for an entry fee which people didn't receive too well, also the first question asked was about cheating and I didn't have a definite answer at that point. But the hope is with a well laid out proposal people are more open to the idea.

So how would the races be broadcast? Would there be a main stream that captures say 4 of the best streams and commentates or would it be just a case of people having to use multitwitch or the SRL streams view to watch whoever they wanted?
from what I have seen on Twitch, races with with proper restreams and commentary get a lot more viewers

Yeah for sure.

Start time and make up days edited

Playoffs format edited (Added an additional sentence just a minute ago also)

Stream requirements edited

Questions section currently removed to make the proposal look more finalized.

If anyone still has any ideas on any changes/improvements make sure to let me know. Otherwise this should be the final edit of the proposal.

Hey everyone, sorry I've been super busy with school. Got into a good business school in Toronto so I'm just keeping my average up and just finishing up exams.

I emailed about 20 companies, unfortunately none of them were able to come through with a sponsor. I will on the other hand guarantee a $100 USD prize pot, this will likely just be my own money but if people want to pitch in that's cool. Still not sure where it will be streamed, but I should have all the info by next week.

My last exam is Tuesday so I'll try to be more active again after that. Sorry for the delay.

Anyway this thing will likely start as scheduled, so be ready for then and gl  Smiley
