So I'm currently on a quest to get all of my times in the top 30.  Everything thing was going relatively smooth until I started working on my VL2 flap.  This has proven to be the toughest/most frustrating flap that I've faced to date.  Am I alone here?  Is VL2 considered the toughest (or most frustrating) flap grind of them all?  I'm not even using the WR flap strat, but instead the strat used by Leyla and most people who have a flap under 10 seconds there.  If you agree that VL2 is the toughest flap to get (or at least was at some point in your karting career) then please let me know.  Also if you disagree then please let me know which flap you feel is the toughest grind of them all!

Prior to CDM I was going for the VL2 flap WR and I cannot do anything else but agree with the sentiments of your post.  Lips Sealed

I got my 10"15 (still Top 30!) without using either of the island jump routes, so I am virtually certain that sub-10" is possible if you're tight enough even without island jumping, which is probably much harder on PAL than on NTSC. You have to break ice blocks out of the way to clear the shortest path around the course, and this takes a couple of minutes (and then you only get four tries at the flap before you have to do it all over again)... that's probably why my VL2 PAL lap time is still in the top 30... I guess most people don't have the patience to bother with getting the ice blocks out of the way.  Cheesy

Leyla doesn't (yet) use the WR strat (as seen in the gif in Guillaume's signature), instead she uses the same route that I used in my NTSC flap PR (9"43). Although she did it without breaking the ice blocks, saving a lot of preparation time. This is also the route used for WR-level 5laps in both NTSC and PAL, because you don't have time to remove any ice blocks. I myself debate, to break or not to break, on going for an island jump lap. I've never made it on either NTSC or PAL without removing ice blocks; you get many more attempts at it by not breaking them, yet you're also much more likely to fail. However, some would argue that learning to do it with the ice blocks in the way will help you follow the right line for a 5lap island-jumping PR. (Have yet to do that on either version)

Does anybody know the fastest VL2 lap on PAL done without island jumping? If I can get 10"15, the fastest should definitely be under 10 seconds. Possibly even tenths below the 10"00 barrier-- somewhere close to Leyla's island-jump PR... Yeah, not only is Top 30 definitely possible without island jumping-- as I have proven-- but Top 20 likely is, as well. If you're super, super tight.

I definitely agree with you Harvey that 10 can be subbed without any form of island hopping.  I've managed to get a 10.22 using your strategy (minus breaking the blocks) however I'm determined to get some island hopping under my belt as I will most certainly incorporate that into my next 5 lap run.

If you thought VL2 flapping was hard.... Smiley

Also, If I remember correctly Gatchan had a 9"8x without island-jump. I did a 9"99 without island-jump AND without the big jump (NTSC) jump at the last corner back in like 2005.

Dude just thinking about pulling off a 5 lap with island jumping makes me want to vomit  Smiley
So needless to say that's probably not going to be anytime soon as I'm pretty disgusted with this course.  Not to mention I PR'd my VL1 times right before jumping to VL2 so yeah....I'm ready for a change of scenery.  I'll actually being making a drastic change in scenery as I'm gunning for BC2 flap next.  From extremely cold terrain with ice cream truck music to boiling hot lava with metal music, I'm excited   Smiley
