What is the best 3DS type for playing mk7
06/02/16 at 08:32:24

What is it in your opinion? Is it the Regular, XL, or the 2DS.

I think the XL is the best cause it's bigger. So I think it'd more comfortable in my opinion. I haven't actually tried it though.

I use the regular XL and I NEVER get cramps from it.

The only thing that hurts after playing is my fingertips because I Hold "A" for Sooo long Tongue

Okami preferred his 2ds above his 3ds xl. I found that surprising.

Personally I like the 3ds xl. But I think what matters the most is a new circle pad, that moves smoothly and has a good grip.

Do all the 3DS types have the same circle pad, Frederiek?

That's good to know, Bradon. I used to get cramps playing with my 3DS regular.

I'm not saying that there is a new type of circle pad. I meant to say that a used circle pad probably gives you a small disadvantage. Don't you feel a difference after you bought a new 2ds or 3ds?

I don't remember, there has been 3 months between the time I broke my previous 3DS and the time I got this one...

I first played with a regular 3DS, then I got a 3DS-XL. It took a while for my hands to get used to the bigger size, but in the end I think I actually played better than I did with the regular 3DS. I think it's better for me personally because I have big hands, I think that younger players with smaller hands would do better with the regular 3DS.

I doubt I could ever do well with a 2DS Smiley

Well, I used to have all of them, now I only have a New 3DS XL Tongue

Anyway, the only difference with the Circle Pad is that for newer models (from around mid 2014) Nintendo started using a different material. Older models feel like they use rubber for the Circle Pad, whereas the newer models seem to use a material more similar to plastic, which feels slightly less loose. They made this change because many people's Circle Pads broke, so they made them more resistant.

Anyway, the best 3DS type for MK7 really depends on your preferences. If your hands are too big for a regular 3DS I think the 3DS XL and the 2DS are better. The 2DS is actually a very good option for TTing, but if you play online too it's the worst choice, because tapping the touch screen quickly is very awkward and impractical in races.

I've TT'd and played online regularly with every 3DS model, and I've found myself most comfortable with the 3DS XL (old and new). I liked all of them though, they all adapt pretty well to MK7. The only major issue is with the 2DS for online races, because of the reason outlined above.

XL all the way.  I can't believe I used to play on regular 3ds.  My hands always cramped and the circle pad didn't last long.  My XL's circle pad is still working perfectly after 2 years of TT's.  I can't comment on 2DS, never held one before.

When did you buy yours?  I bought mine on launch day, and the circle pad was destroyed in a little over a year I think.  Try an XL and there's no going back imo.  There's way more space for your hands to breathe.

Personally I found the big shoulder buttons to be comfortable for long TTing sessions. They're quite different than the shoulder buttons on the other models though, so they feel very weird at first and they take some time to get used to.

Ok, thanks. Hmm.. then the shoulder buttons on the 2DS might be better for WWs too

XL all the way, because of many reasons Smiley

Interesting fact about circle pads, I do feel the difference with my XL one vs regular white which is first gen, it doesn't feel smooth on the small one, explains the rubber thing lol (then to think this one isn't broken yet! Cheesy)
Fun fact, my sister's 3DS is still running on 2.1E which is too old for MK7 Tongue (*cough* needs at least 4.3E *cough*)
