Just to show that I am a man of many talents: here are some interesting stats about this year's Karter Contest!
2K14 had 112 participants. Only 67 of those karters will return for the 2K16 edition. That means that we have 29 entrants that didn't feature two years ago. Of those 29, 22 karters will make their very first KC appearance this year. Karters returning after a longer absence (last entry between brackets) include ScouB (2K8), Fabien (2K8), Tuomas (2K12), PYL (2K10), Darius (2K10), Dan H (2K10) and the legendary Mike Groels (2K4).
This unfortunately means that 45 of last year's participants could not secure a spot in this year's KC. One of them is our combined champ Chris, who got banned from the KC after winning 2K14's rigged contest. That leaves 44 karters. 31 of the 44 who were unable to return to the KC went out in 2K14's group stage. 12 karters who were knocked out in last time's round of 64 will not feature this year, and there was even one player that reached the last 32 in 2K14, but he could not gather enough nominations to make it into this contest.
But anyway, we should take a look at this year's participants. First we'll look at the 29 karters that didn't feature last time 4 of them are mainly MK64 players, with two of them immediatly skipping the group stage by getting into the top nominated spots. SMK and MKDD do even better with 5 new participants each. But it is MK7 that takes the crown. The MK7 crew will have 6 new players in the KC! MKSC and MKW on the other hand will only have 1 new karter in the contest.
When we look at all of the 96 participants this year, we'll see that 30 (31%) of them are old school karters (2005 or earlier). The biggest chunk of participants, 38 (39,5%) of them, belong to the middle school (2006-2010). The smallest class is the new school (2011 or later), with only 28 (29%) representatives.
41 participants live in North America (USA/Canada). 52 players are European. That leaves 3 outsiders: 1 from Brazil, 1 from Australia and 1 from New Zealand. The country with the most karters in the tournament is obviously the USA, with 35. The UK carries the biggest load for the Europeans. 15 of them made it into the KC. Other countries with multiple representatives include the Netherlands (10), France (10), Canada (6), Germany (4), Sweden (3), Norway (2), Italy (2) and Belgium (2).
The mod block has received a big knock since last time around, when the mods were auto-ins. Last time, 21 mods were in the contest. This time, only 14 of them made the cut. And just a funny stat to conclude: 27 people have played/are playing in one of the two mafia games hosted in the past month. 19 of those players have made it into the KC.
