The mode does not matter, only the hours put into the game itself. Between all modes "mostly" GP, I would say around 2500 hours or so.

I have to make an informed guess later, but it involves some calculations regarding average playing time per day during active periods and the timespan of inactive periods. It's probably between 6000 and 8000 hours, but I will choose exaggerated parameters on both extremes to come up with a confidence interval which will certainly include the actual value.

Also, I'd like to know how much time Sami has played the game and how much time Sami has spent Time Trialling on MC1. It's gotta be over 50% right? Grin

I spent countless hours when I was a kid playing with my neighbour, so that alone sums up to probably 500 hours... TT wise a lot more I guess, around 1500 probably... I know I spent a lot more time with MKDD tho. Total MK time probably goes up to 12000-15000 hours... I think.

Yeah, the magic number. That famous 10000 hour order of magnitude that Malcom Gladwell came up with. It's being dissed lately, but it still makes sense imho.

Of course one will need the motivation to go through that much practice, plus "talent" to be able to make it to the top.

I think I read somewhere that Neo has played about that much.

As for me, I made a quick calculation:
2h a week for 1994-1997
4h a week for 2005-2006
1h a week for 1.5 years (since Nov 2014)
Total: 910 hours, virtually all in TT

Strange, I would have thought I played more than this.

Let's try to compare the hours of practice vs. the TT ranking.

KVD, Alicia, Chris, ScouB, Antistar: ~10000h -> top 10
Joe: ~3000h -> top 20
Jet: ~2000h -> top 50
Fabrice: ~1000h -> top 120
Racer: 10h -> Rank??? (I found your name but no profile for SMK)

Of course, many play in other modes (of MKs), etc. I'm just talking about order of magnitude here.

Never had the game as a kid and bought it when I was like 16 (24 now). Didn't like it at the beginning but got motivated a few weeks ago when a friend started beating some of my records.

Probably about 30

Had 9480hrs logged into MKW as of like October 2010 when my old Wii died (about half of that was idle though). So like ~4000-5000hrs in 2.5 years there. I've played MKSC vastly more than any other kart though; 2011 I essentially played between 6-18 hours a day, depending on free time. Summer 2011 I doubt I had a single session under 12 hours Lips Sealed

Edit: also counted up how many hours of COD:MW3 I had (it keeps track of time) and it's around 2100 hours on multiplayer and maybe ~50 between campaign and spec ops

As of August 3rd SMK has been available for 9006 days if anyone cares, so to play for 10000 would mean just over an hour a day.
