Flaps aren't saved (probably not the reason lol) and best splits are best splits.

Wait.... why am I here? Grin

The splits are lap only measurements of how the track is notmally played and flaps are the lap being played as fast as possible.they are not saved on this game. For other mk games such as mkwii flaps (fastest lap)are saved. Flaps can be counted as WR's like mk64 and MKDD.

I personnally think that World Record doesn't mean anything actually, everything should be called BKT. No one can prove that there isn't an unknown player in the world having a better time than the BKT.
I guess it is commonly called "WR" because the chances that this case happens are really low.

Coming back to the topic, flap BKTs should be called WRs to stay in with the current MK7 logic. The flaps aren't saved in the game but people prove their times, just like 3laps WRs. There's no difference imo.

Anyway, few people care about flaps on MK7 though.

Doesn't it seem easier to group all best times under one category though? (WR)

I think WR is a good label for a best time. I don't think it claims to be the best time in all the world, it just claims to be the best recorded time in the world.

You know Yoshistar and Bradon, I think you have a point. If people are not actively competing in a part of the game because the game is missing a feature, maybe world record is not the right word. I could have a WR in anything then.

Or is it the right word. I dunno.

Few people really cares about flaps and other things, and since there's that little amount of people that do them, that there could very well be a better time out there, so yeah. BKTs just fit it more than anything else really from my point of view.

Agreed, some BKSes even reach the flap top 5's...

Flaps aren't on mkwrs. Bastien once asked Cole why MK7 has no Flap world records. I don't remember what Cole's answer was. But he didn't think it was needed to treat flaps as world records or to add them to the site. Instead he created a link to Kleenex' thread and also called it 'best known flaps'. I personally think the name 'best known' suits better because that thread isn't even one year old. Maybe there have been better flaps in the past that aren't listed on any site and that got lost this way.

Ultimately it all depends on what the game itself treats as important or not. Flaps are not calculated in our AF rankings and they are not counted as WRs, simply because the game does not save them. We've had a lot of discussions about this when the game first came out, whether or not we had to count flaps. In the end, we decided against it, and that has turned out to be the right decision. As much as I love flaps myself, they are not anymore a part of competitive time trialing on the game.

For best known splits goes practically the same. They are merely an indicator for how fast someone's 3lap could possibly be. There is no point in calling them WRs, because there is no competition for them. If we started to call BKS WRs, than we should also call the fastest cloud9-mushroom tyres times WRs as well.

And finally, I'm 99.99999% confident to call the times on mkwrs.com world records. Yes, we can never be 100% sure, but in times like these, where everyone as internet access, miiverse, twittter and other social media, I do not think that there is anyone out there with faster times. And nobody would be able to, for example, figure out all of the WR strats that we came up with as a community all by themselves. We can't also be 100% sure that there is nobody in the world that runs faster than Usain Bolt, but I don't have any problems calling his 9"58 a world record. Ultimately, yes, all of our times on mkwrs are only best known times, but I will always call them world records.
