I thought Thing was going to withdraw to allow the loser of Tanney vs. Honko (in this case, Tanney) to stay in the contest. And yet he's on one of today's ballots... I guess he wasn't being serious about it, or he was talked out of the decision.
But bringing back one of the losers wouldn't be fair to all the other losers, unless one loser in particular has shown that he does indeed deserve another shot. It looks like a few people here really do want Tanney back, but Mick and all of us voting need to come to an agreement on who (if anybody) we bring back to replace Neo in Group 16. If we go strictly by performance, Darius may be a deserving candidate, since he missed top three in his group by a single vote, beating me out since I missed my group's top three by two votes. However, the closest losing candidate would have to be the loser of the KMacc vs. Fank tiebreaker, currently underway, and there may be more tiebreakers before we get to group 16. Tanney, on the other hand, was beaten pretty handily by Honko in the play-in match-- a margin of 8 votes. I don't know if it would be so fair to bring him back over people who came so much closer, but I guess the final decision is, as I said before, between Mick and everyone else here. If we create a "loser group" of top five losers to decide who fills the hole in group 16, I'd be fine with that. (Not saying that I expect to be the one-- that position would be best filled by somebody who did not lose by more than one vote.) But when push comes to shove, a four-person group 16 is what I currently foresee. On one hand, there's a bit of unfairness involved in bringing back a loser, but on the other hand, the people who found themselves in a smaller group 16 will now have an easier time advancing with fewer opponents. There is no perfect course of action here.
