Hello everyone, Matt Ballard here 😸

Since buying my PAL SNES in November I've had the worst luck with controllers. The one I'm currently using has been good to me for the past 3 months but now it's starting to give me some serious problems. For example: whenever I make my final countersteer to the left as I'm going to drift into a right curve, Bowser will twitch and jerk to the right. The same thing happens whenever I make a countersteer to the right as I'm about to drift into a left curve except Bowser then jerks to the left. I took my controller apart and it was pretty dirty (I didn't clean it after I bought it) so I cleaned it carefully yet thoroughly but this did not fix the problem. Nothing appeared to be damaged before and after I cleaned it. So yeah, I'm curious if any of you veterans have ran into this problem and if so maybe then maybe you could shed some light on this situation for me 😁. Any advice or information would be most appreciated!

wxyz Legend Offline 5481 holabolas	Re: Problems with my snes controller ); Reply #1 - 03/19/16 at 18:06:52 I had a snes pad once that where if I was doing a long right facing slide it would suddenly lock up and throw me off to the left (usually on BC1 on the turn between the first and second sets of bumpers). I had other pads so I just stopped using it rather than try to fix it though.

I had this problem with an old pad and my first modded one. I filed it down too much and when I pressed too hard on it the d-pads input didn't get recognized correctly and I drifted into the opposite direction. Try to put some more pressure on it and if this happens, you probably filed it down a bit too much... maybe it was okay, but after playing with it a lot you took to much pressure on it. Just a guess, but could be the reason.

I've always had a galaxy of various troubles with my SNES/SFC controllers due to my (slight) tendency to have my nerves get the best of me while playing so I sort of had to learn how this little piece of machinery functioned. If you're willing to post pictures of the inside of your controller I might be able to notice some screw up your eye might have missed.

So I took Chris' advice and switched out the d-pad with one that wasn't as worn down on the bottom and it seems to help a little. The controller seems fine as long as I don't put too much pressure on the d-pad. Adapting a "gentle fist" style of karting is not something that I want to do so I guess I'll be investing in a new controller soon, meh...
