I have a friend that is making a texture hack pack. This was pretty exciting to me, and so I was planning on installing it and going back to play rMT G and/or rMG to see if I could WR. But I have a question: would a WR made on a texture hacked track count? I know it wouldn't in MKWii, but this is MK7, and we haven't really been exposed to things of this nature, or created any rules regarding things like this either; they're generally new things to the community.

Of course I would love to be able to WR with a textured course, the idea excites me immensely, and since it creates no advantage I think it should be allowed. However, I can also understand why this would not be allowed, and that MKWii has set a precedent, but since there aren't any rules regarding this yet I thought I could make this thread to find out both what the standard is, and what members of the community have to say.

I'm not sure if I should've made this a poll of not, because I'm not sure if it's a matter of popular demand or simply rules that must be made and enforced.

I personally have no issue with texture hacks, but allowing it becomes a slippery slope to other modifications, and then we would have to draw an arbitrary line later on.

I do think that in general, the MK7 community is a LOT better than the MKW one and would be better equipped to handle custom things, but even so.

If the community feels that custom textures are fine, then I'm okay with it. Just thought I'd offer my $0.02 on the matter  Smiley

My first reaction would be that a WR should be made on a genuine game. And if you say that you don't get any advantage by it, I know it's true because I fully trust you. But someone who doesn't know you will say: Look at this Samuel, he's a hacker, he hacks a world record and he gets away with it. So somehow I think this would give yourself and the community a bad name. On the other hand it would also be wrong not to recognise it as a WR if you didn't got any advantage from it. But what will happen when somebody else who you don't know or trust will get a WR with another hack pack?

This. Get the fuck out with your hacks. Modifying the game is cheating, regardless of what you modify. You could be changing 1 pixel in the sky from blue to dark blue, and it would still be cheating. Stop.

Maybe you could set the WR on vanilla MK7 and then if/when the live replay hack gets made and released (it would have to be programmed to not save ghost to prevent people from copying WRs/Top 10s), apply the texture hack then?

Honestly still waiting for live replay to happen since it would allow you to:
- Record your PRs any time you want
- Use the normal 3rd person view, which makes it easier for viewers to follow the run and know what to do when they go to play the track + it will silence/satisfy the complainers that bitch about 1st person view
- Negate the need to actually record while TTing if you don't have a capture card
- Record ghosts sent to you by someone, which is helpful if they don't have any means of recording (very unlikely, but you never know lol) or any means of recording in good quality
- Record old WRs that show up frequently on SpotPass that weren't recorded when they were set (i.e. Doco's 1:54.266 on DKJ G)

I can understand why they shouldn't be used. Even though everyone has different opinions about this (some more extreme than others) I think it is best for the community to not allow this because of the many problems it could create in the future. MK7 hacks in general will develop more and not allowing this is a good way to set a precedent for other types of things that may come up in the future. However, should top 10s or PRs be counted, and just not WRs? Or should there be a total ban on using them in TTs?

Well to be safe they should be banneded all together, i'm not saying we don't trust you though. Besides I think MKW doesn't allow them either (correct me if i'm wrong on this)

Texture hacks have always been forbidden, so what's the point of allowing it now? WRs should be only set on the original game
