Player Of the Year 2015 – Results

2015 proved to be a great year for MK7. And between all your massive activity, these three players impressed us the most. But only one will get the title. Who do you choose?

Okami
Our first competitor started his year on a #21 AF spot. Despite his high ranking, he has still been able to PR on all 32 tracks since then. 14 of them are now top10 times and he is the holder of 2 new site records: Mario Circuit and Retro Koopa Cape. He got the Retro Dino Dino Jungle and the Mario Circuit world records too, but lost them later in the year. Now he ends 2015 on a brilliant #5 position in the AF rankings, an astonishing #3 position in Total Times, and as the new British champion. He is PROkami.

SunMK
Sun surprised us when he joined the player page in April on a 15th AF position. He was and has stayed very active through the entire year, played almost every track, and got his name into no less than fifteen worldwide top 10s. Among his highlights are five improvements of the Retro Luigi Raceway world record, and beating Alexony’s old Retro Kalimari Desert site record. Sun now ranks 6th on the AF charts. He also kept surprising us by trying out new strats and PR’ing with unusual vehicle combos.

Samuel
At the end of 2014, most of us were still wondering who this Samuel was that emerged in the top 40. One year later, everybody knows him as a multiple world record holder and thinks he is one of the biggest talents in our top 20. Yes, he amazed us with multiple top 10 times. But then he achieved that mythical glitch world record of 1:48.993 on Retro Maple Treeway. And what was even more impressing, is that he started the year with 1:37.785 on Retro Mushroom Gorge and has now gotten it all the way down to a new world record of 1:33.637.

Because we want the best player to win?
The problem with more nominees is that there will be a bigger diversification of the votes and so the chance grows that not the best player, but the most popular player wins it.
And yes we had more names at first, but we did our best to narrow it down to the right three.

I totally agree with you, Fants. But before we opened the poll, we were with six people who gave their opinion about who they think that should be nominated for POY. Only one of us six gave Weisse in his top 3. This is an indication that his chances to win the award were very small. Even if you, and maybe some others, think that he deserved to be nominated. Okami, Sun and Samuel on the other hand, all had a majority of the votes.

Maybe not, look at what Diogo did in early 2014: he got all WW top 10's and reached an AF below 3.0000... Everybody probably thought he was going to get the POY, but then Bastien came...
