Thanks for posting this Flo, if you can do some explanations in English as well when you get a chance that will be good. If anyone has any questions please ask; hopefully the accommodation questions etc can be answered as I know a few (Guilherme?) were wondering about it...

Thanks Smiley
As you can see, Guillaume will translate it in english this week. So you'll all get details very soon Smiley

In the meantime, let's just say that the CDM 2016 will be organized in a whole videogames festival in Strasbourg, with many activities (such as conferences, gaming zones, exhibition) and guests (such as pro-gamers).
The organization itself will be different than the previous CDMs, as the players will have to book themselves their place for sleeping, allthough several choices can be proposed to them already (hotels, airbnb, staying for free over players from Strasbourg, etc.) for different types of pricing strategies. Some food should be provided with a catering system in the venue, we'll get more details about that later.
Basically, you'll have to be more autonomous about sleeping and eating/drinking (no camping included), but solutions are proposed.
Registration will be 10 euros per person only for the whole CDM though. Wink

Thanks for this Neo, we may need to sort out group bookings if hotel is the chosen option and see if they can do a discount or something, depending how many per team can attend; I'm not certain myself, depends on job and things as per many others. There's still time to think about this, but overall it will be a much more expensive trip, minus the hassle of tents and a stupid amount of luggage.

Great to see we have more info. Sami, can you please let me know when Team UK starts searching for hotels? I'd like to join a group of people since sharing a room is the cheapest way to go. I'm making my plans, but the tickets have skyrocketed since last year Undecided

I don't even know if I will be attending just yet or who will be going either from UK (assuming it will be similar crowd). In any case I would want to sort out travel and hotels by around May or so if we are attending. The travel and things are all different I agree, and costs are going up for this particular trip so hopefully everyone can get a good deal. One major worry that is gone at least is the tents which we don't have to think about, less weight to carry at least.

May sounds a bit late for me to start my overall plans (because plane), but it's perfect for the hotel bookings. Would you please include me in the hotel conversations once they begin?  Kiss

Hey man. Im prolly gonna be booking my stuff independently from the rest of the Team UK gang for CDM 2016 as im considering alternative ways of getting there besides Eurostar. I dont mind sharing a room to help on costs if you want? Was gonna aim to book at that Airbnb place the French mob have been talking about, so prolly booking Jan - Feb time. Lemme know homey.

Just to add, we weren't gona be doing Eurostar, it would be too much of a trek, ive had enough of lugging 60k suitcases and Paris commuters huffing and puffing like im a pest in their way without understanding that we all have a tonne of crap to carry and trying to help us instead. Flying there would be the option but still have lots to sort out. So if you are planning to book early and that suits Guilherme then cool as I know the guys flying from very far away will have to get their bookings done much earlier anyway. I should know more by a bit further into 2016.

Had a look at flights to Strasbourg and getting there could be an issue. Getting back is easy as easyjet fly direct back on Sundays for about £30 but don't fly there on Tues or Weds and other airlines are either really expensive or are not direct and take 6+hrs. The options seem to be:

1) fly there on the weds and back on the sunday but outbound flight would be expensive/long
2) fly there cheap on the monday and have a couple of extra days in Strasbourg (combined flights about £60)
3) Get the eurostar and connecting train there on the weds (costs £50 and takes ~6hrs inc 1 hour to change trains) and fly easyjet back on the Sun (£30)

Personally I'd prob go with option 3 if I go as I don't mind traveling so much on the way there, it's on the way back that it kills me.

As for rooms/hotels etc. not really that bothered eitherway but would like something close (walking distance) to the venue as don't want to have to trek about too much at start and end of each day.

Hey man, that sounds cool. I'm with Moll on the "would like something close (walking distance) to the venue as don't want to have to trek about too much at start and end of each day" point, let's see if those airbnb places will fit it. I plan on having my plans set by the end of January (or, if I'm not able to go, at least have that confirmation), so I guess our timings are good here.

Molls 3rd option actually seems the best tbh. As he says, the journey there is fine, its the way home which is the worst. So yeah, il think il do it that way.

And good staff GAS, we can check out hotels in the new year.

There will be some years and some time when i cant make it, and if happens that can't be helped. But like i said hopefully all goes ok and i can go this year and maybe 2017.

So another question, what time does the final awards ceremony start and finish on the Sunday?

As i would be looking to fly both ways if i do go, i want to avoid a Eurostar / trains route completely. And take the easyjet back on the Sunday but we need to be at the airport by 4pm for the 6pm flight. So need to get taxi from 3pm, if we know where that can be found. Or fly back on the Monday, though i want to avoid staying too long if have to come 2 days early on the previous Monday.

Moll:

Easyjet site doesnt seem to show any flights to from any London airport to Strasbourg when searching beyond around 21st March. But when i do a different city like paris it shows flights available to August. Does it mean that because of the small route they dont put them up till 3 months in advance only? Or does it mean they don't do them anymore?  Lips Sealed The only other flights require a change somewhere that takes ages, from Heathrow etc.

Hopefully it stays the same and the direct flights you mentioned are still there in August. We cant book them till end of May / start June then anyway in that case. Only the hotels can be done sooner.

Yeh I was working on the same flight timetable being made available later on for later in the year, though can do some digging to find out.

edit: Have emailed easyjet to find out, will post when I get a response.

edit: Response from easyjet:

"In response to your query, since the website advises the "route you have selected is for sale until 21 Mar 2016", easyJet has not confirmed a flight schedule for after 21 March 2016.
The route wont be discontinued, it's just easyJet has not yet confirmed the flight times and routes for after the 21 March 2016."
