What happens when DLC is discontinued?

I'll say it now: MK8's DLC is fantastic. However, not everybody has the DLC, and so we must separate the charts on the Players' Page. What I find interesting about the separation is that the DLC charts are generally accepted as the main charts (except on combined ranks). I'm not against this at all, because otherwise players wouldn't really be rewarded for playing DLC tracks.

But this begs the question, what happens when Nintendo decides it's time to pull the plug on DLC by not offering it for download? At this time (which hopefully is far off) the only people who will be able to play DLC are the ones who already have the DLC. There will be very few new players joining the DLC ranks.

What is of concern is if someone's console breaks at this point: they can't just buy one second-hand and get the DLC back. Since DLC charts are the main rankings, that player will not be able to fully compete, and may be demotivated - perhaps not regularly playing the game anymore.

Because of this situation, it may be good to at least consider, when DLC is officially discontinued, to switch the main ranks to the non-DLC ranks. Perhaps not everyone agrees, I'm bringing this up for discussion so we're all aware of what could happen in the future. I'd like to hear others' opinions on the matter: what would you say is the best way to move forward when the DLC is discontinued?

It's far too easy to forget what it's like to be a kid. But one secret to happiness is to be able to pick out links to our childhood in the mundanities of adult life. That's why I love Mario Kart. Whether I'm imagining wading through frosting in Sweet Sweet Canyon to take a bite of that giant donut, or picturing myself, shrunken down, making my way through Waluigi's pinball machine, there's something rejuvenating about the game that provides a nice reminiscence of the halcyon days gone by.

I'm pretty sure Nintendo has released copies of the game with the DLC preinstalled

Maybe hacks will allow the DLC to be installed after Nintendo stops offering it.

Do you have a link of such a copy?
As far as I know, the Wii U + Mario Kart 8 (pre-installed in the console's internal memory; no disc) + Mario Kart 8 DLC Packs 1 & 2 bundle comes with a code to download the DLC from the Nintendo eShop.

http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-32GB-Mario-Kart-Deluxe-u/dp/B011XO54MA/
Mario Kart 8 comes pre-installed, no physical disc needed. Includes a Nintendo eShop download card for 2 packs of bonus DLC

All DLC files have already been ripped (see this list from hacking forums gbatemp.net), but there is no publicly available hack for the latest Wii U firmware version. I think it is safe to assume that eventually, when Nintendo stops supporting Wii U with firmware updates, the console will be just as hackable as the Wii and you'll be able to install Mario Kart 8 along DLC on your console even if it's not available anymore from the Nintendo eShop.

Indeed, a way of doing so without hacks (such as a “Game of the Year” edition) would be handier. Maybe Nintendo will release a complete Mario Kart 8 edition by the end of Wii U's life or on the next system.
