Will MK8 TAS/Emulation be possible?

Since MK8 hacking is possible, I wonder if MK8 TASing will be possible too.

It's only a matter of time before computer hardware becomes powerful enough to emulate the Wii U. I think that will be in at least 5 years though.

It could be possible for someone with enough dedication and technical skills to TAS the game by constructing a device that behaves like a Wii remote but can be programmed to send an arbitrary sequence of inputs to the console. (Maybe that's not possible, I don't know much about that sort of stuff.)

Whether I'm imagining wading through frosting in Sweet Sweet Canyon to take a bite of that giant donut, or picturing myself, shrunken down, making my way through Waluigi's pinball machine, there's something rejuvenating about the game that provides a nice reminiscence of the halcyon days gone by.

2016 seems near impossible, and 2017 seems unlikely. PS3 emulation is only beginning to be possible now, and currently only 2 PS3 games can be emulated, usually with single-digit framerates. Emulating the Wii U should be even more difficult (I'm pretty sure the Wii U's hardware is more powerful than the PS3). This is why I'd imagine it will be a few years at least before it's possible to emulate MK8 (remember that MK8 has some of the best graphics on the Wii U).

You make a good point. MK8 TASing probably won't be possible untill 2019, maybe 2018.

I don't think the Wii U's hardware is more complicated than the PS3, lol. Wii U is like... 6 years behind where it should have been. Wii is a joke.

Sure, both the original Wii and Wii U have underpowered hardware. But after all the criticism the Wii got for its poor graphics, I doubt Nintendo would release the Wii U with worse hardware than what had been available from the competition for several years. And even if the Wii U is less powerful than the PS3, it's not by much.

This is interesting, although I'm not terribly surprised. It still seems very incomplete - it's not even looking as far developed as the PS3 emulator - and will likely be several years before we can run full games at high framerates. I'm interested to see how fast this will develop...

I think it will be possible fearly soon.
A Wii U Emulator is currently in development called cemu.

Check out these links for more information:
https://www.reddit.com/r/cemu/
http://gbatemp.net/threads/release-cemu-wii-u-emulator.399524/

Obviously, by 2017 the emulation will not be perfect. It will most definitly have graphical glitches and all, but I think the game will be kind of playable and will have a first version of a mk8 TAS.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens. (:

Just an idea, since Wii U has been hacked a lot already, couldn't you make an emulator inside of the Wii U? A tool that runs games with slowmotion frame by frame and lets you set savestates + input tools? I don't expect the first emulator to have great TASing tools so why not get started with such a thing right away?

Once MK8 TASing is near perfection, do you think that people will try to submit TAS times to the leaderboards?

We couldn't ever prevent it since it just needs a single person as dumb as many were back in MKW to destroy TTing for once and all. There will always be players quite new to the community that don't think about how bad consequences it will have for others. But if we made a tool that doesn't allow sending times to the charts made on the TAS tools on console I mentioned we could at least prevent it for the closer future.

Just slowmo and savestates alone could result in INSANE crazy TASes for sure.

Can't tell if you are sarcastic or not, but for example my MKW TASes were all done with 15 FPS and savestates only, and yet they beat frame advance TASers in the time they were made in.

Key phrase right there. If you want to take the time to make a really good TAS, frame-by-frame is a must.

Well right as we speak I have beaten the first lap of a TAS made with frame advance TAS input by around 0.1 with the shitty tools once again. Even from the TASer that is considered the best MKW TASer of all time by most ppl Smiley It also depends on the person who is TASing a lot, how good they are with the tools they can use.
