Dutch Championships of SMK!

Aron came up with the idea to organize a Dutch Championship of SMK and I think it's an excellent idea! We're aiming for a full day in November, with as many of the Dutch karters as possible. The event will be accross an entire weekend, but the tournaments will be limited to 1 day so people that can't set aside a full weekend can also participate. The surrounding days will be used for installing, free-play and chilling.

Location: Awesome Space, Utrecht OR House of Gaming Utrecht, if the Awesome Space venue is for some reason not possible.

Dates: To be decided by you guys

National Championships are National Championships, else we are just copying CDMs if everyone goes. Will be nice to watch a bit on stream (if it is) and some vids after.

Very nice idea Karel, may get a lot of new Dutch players involved who may like to attend a CDM in future.

Whatever happened to Alvin Van Asselt? Also, any chance of Steven Zwartjes showing up? I haven't heard anything from him in a long time either, and it looks like his hometown (Dordrecht) is not a very long drive from Utretcht at all. Since the Netherlands is not a large country, you should all have seen each other before and probably stay within regular contact, especially those of you who live within an hour's drive of one another. It'd be nice to get TvL or Marijn Jongbloed ("the other MJ") in this event as well, as Aron has already proven that a good MKDD player can go quite a long way in SMK given the time, though we should not reasonably expect them to do well right from the start. Still, it'd be interesting to see how well one of those guys could do at this game...

P.S. If you can get at least one hot Dutch girl involved in this, I might actually consider watching it on Twitch. It doesn't have to be an all-male event, you know Wink

So in order for Nick to be interested in watching various streams of video game play, there has to be at least ONE girl involved. And he doesn't care if they're affiliated with a male karter, he just wants his eye candy. Does that just about sum it up? Smiley

Don't think I'm being so serious about the Dutch girls, I didn't mean to offend anybody or anything (I just couldn't resist)-- surely a gathering even of Holland's best male Karters would still be pretty interesting to watch online (even more so to attend, for those of you lucky enough to both live close enough to Utrecht and have the free time to go there).

I really do wonder what happened to Steven and Alvin, however...

I remember Mr. Zwartjes back in 1999 when he had the WRs in Star Fox 64 (Lylat Wars). I think he was MK64 world champion at that time as well. Alvin was... 6 years old then? Grin

Small update, it looks like we're set on Sunday the 29th of November after MJ also 'confirmed' that this date will probably work for him.

The only person so far that is certain to miss it is Patrick, because he's in Sweden for DreamHack that weekend.

I will get in touch with the guys from Awesome Space & NLG to check venue availability. Hopefully we can already have access on Saturday 28th, so we can do some chilling and pre-tournament antics*. Although I will not be there myself on Saturday night due to earlier planned activities, but that's ok.

*if not, it will be at the House Of Gaming, our spacious, but rather untidy (there are screens & cables everywhere) living quarters in Utrecht.
