Hi,

I know the Barrel Train is the best vehicle for racing in this game. I use it for 12 of the 16 race tracks. The Barrel Train is way to speedy and difficult for me to control on Waluigi Stadium, DK Mountain, Wario Colosseum and Rainbow Road. I use the Toad Kart on these tracks instead.

Out of the remaining light weight vehicles, (Goo-Goo Buggy, Koopa Dasher, Parawing Kart, Bullet Blaster Kart, Rattle Buggy Kart and the Toadette Kart,) which of these is fastest? If it's the Bullet Blaster Kart, what is the next fastest kart?

The reason I am asking is so I can possibly replace the Toad Kart on WS, DKM, WC and RR in order to improve my PRs further and possibly achieve new standards too Smiley

My ability to test vehicles is poor. For many years I assumed the Toad Kart was better than the Barrel Train until I found this player's page and read otherwise, (Barrel Train is best I learned from the FAQ.) To demonstrate further I don't know how to test very well, those of you who know MK64, I tested all the characters on a real Mario Kart 64 cartridge on a real N64 many, many years ago and thought that the heavy weights were best for time trial but learned a few years ago that light weights are best and heavy weights are the worst. I got the info from FAQ on MK64 PP and immediately destroyed my PRs.

This is why I am asking what the fastest MKDD vehicle is after the Barrel Train, so I can possibly replace the Toad Kart on those 4 tracks to improve my PRs. Again, I can't use the Bullet Blaster Kart very well either so it's not a option for me. I hope to play MKDD Time Trial soon.

Thanks for your help guys Smiley

Personally I think it's useless to play a track without the Barreltrain.. Only for DKM I make an exception.. (my pr's are with the TK there as well).. Just keep practising and put hours into the game and you'll get used to it soon enough Smiley

Hi Aron,

Thanks for the advice Smiley

At your great level of skill it's pretty much compulsory to choose the Barrel Train for everything except DKM because you are extremely highly ranked Smiley

I disagree about what vehicle I should use because I have tried before and couldn't do as well with the Barrel Train on those 4 tracks. I believe I was born to not be able to race well with the Barrel Train on those 4 tracks. Maybe you are right? As I think I got 3:07:xxx using the Barrel Train on RR Course in 50Hz when my Toad Kart best is 3:05:xxx in 50Hz.

Even if I should try harder with the Barrel Train I, am looking for quick and easy PRs for now as I have too many games to play and too much walking in real life to do to be healthy.

Thanks again Smiley

Hi ! I agree with Aron. I play with the barrel train on every track, especially on DKM where I have hero B time. I think it's a question of practice,  when I see the top players vids with the barrel train.

Hi Jocelyn,

Thanks for the advice Smiley And well done on your Hero B standard Smiley

Maybe if I make MKDD TTs a higher priority over my other video games and try enough times with the Barrel Train on those 4 tracks I might surprise myself? Although, maybe it's okay that I use the Toad Kart on DKM as that is what Aron uses. If I try to use the Barrel Train on more tracks it won't be for a very long time as I have different priorities. When I started this topic I, wanted to earn PRs very quickly without much commitment.

I still tend to have a different approach to competition strategy than most persons at any competition which is, I believe in being comfortable with my strategy rather than trying to copy techniques that are way too hard and bring down my performance. But if I don't try new things I won't improve much. It's a balancing act. I should copy some techniques.

Thanks again for the advice Aron and Jocelyn Smiley

Barrel train is just undoubtedly the best kart for every track but DKM.  You'd be handicapping yourself to not use it.  The reason Toad Kart might seem better in some cases is because it's more forgiving on bumps and regains speed more quickly than the barrel train.  The solution isn't to use a kart that's more forgiving though; it's to learn to avoid the bumps and solidify your driving line.  DKM is so bumpy that Toad Kart matches up well with Barrel Train until the very highest levels of driving, so I'd say use what you're more comfortable with there.

It seems you got most of your information from the FAQ. On the menu on the left on the mkdd-pages there's also the "mkdd-opedia", which links to a site made by an extremely funny, amazingly good-looking and modest guy, with a lot more tips. (There's also a link in my signature)

When you say that the Barrel Train is too speedy for you, do you mean that you're having trouble doing every MT in time? If so, you should simply cut down on the number of MTs you do. If you're not that fast yet, it's better to focus on the quality rather than the quantity of your MTs.

Hi Stephen  Smiley

I see we're both active players near the same skill level. I've been playing a lot this summer in my free time. I'm ranked 391 but I've cut 15 seconds off of my total time within the last few days. Do you wanna compete and give eachother some motivation?  Smiley

I have never used toad kart and i don't see any reason doing it either.. messes up your driving lines you learned from Barrel train, will only make you confused, atleast that's my opinion..

stick to the barrel train and practice practice practice  Smiley

Hi TvL, Stephen, Gav and Andreas Smiley

I haven't been on the forums for a few months now. Randomly checked the forums today. I assumed after my last post that no one else would reply because I said that I'll keep using the Toad Kart on certain tracks going against the advice of the GREATS. Sorry for not responding.

Thanks for the help everyone, (I'm not being sarcastic, honestly.) I mean this.

I wanted vehicle advice, I got it and am very surprised just how unique my view is regarding this. I am NOT saying I am right or wrong when it comes to whether or not I should use the Barrel Train on every track with the exception of DKM being optional. Even though I disagree I, appreciate everyone's help Smiley

Well done Stephen on defeating me Smiley You will probably destroy my AF score in the future if you can keep your motivation as I feel I have reached about 97%-99% of my MKDD time trial potential and don't see how I can improve much more, congrats and good luck improving with your time trials and your statistics for this MKDDPP!

I'm not easy to coach as I have difficulty interpreting what persons mean accurately. I should have been more clear and should have said I'm not after strats or general advice, just vehicle advice.

Thanks guys Smiley
