Hello there. I've been an avid Mario Kart fan since the Super Mario Kart days, always been better than the people around me, and always pushed myself to do better. But lately after slowly discovering how to improve in games like Smash Bros, I've been craving for some help with understanding Mario Kart--help that would take too long to discover on my own.
Part of the reason I took up Smash Bros so much over Mario Kart was because the following was so big, and help was abundant. But with Mario Kart, it felt... hopeless? I felt like no matter how much better I tried to get, the metagame of WRs and such would always spring ahead. On top of that, Mariokartwii.com's forums didn't seem the kind to be... knowledgable. I didn't trust them.
Basically, I really could use some direction and/or tutorials on how Mario Kart 8 specifically works. Out of all the games, this one seems the most promising and interesting in the series, and I really want to understand what works, what doesn't, and why. Post tutorial vids if you want, but only if they're credible. Otherwise, I'd like a breakdown of how things work.
I understand the basics up to fire hopping, but that's the first and only tech I learned in this game so far, and I know it's not enough. I see players hopping and sliding in a bunch of places and I have no idea why it works or why it doesn't when I try it. Essentially, I don't think I need a racing 101 lesson, but a Mario Kart 8 mechanics 101 lesson. Do feel free to add in any racing 101 because for all I know, I'm missing some basics. For example, I often fail to correctly assess the best strats--On Big Blue's first lap, first turn, I'm not sure which path is fastest, for example. It's not that I can't just look up the current best time, it's just that I'd rather understand why so I can develop strats myself. I hope that makes sense.
Hope to hear some replies soon. Thanks in advance.
