Tips for hosting a tournament?
03/20/15 at 17:13:04

Sometime this summer (idk when yet), im gonna host a super smash bros tournament; one for 3DS and one for Wii U. I've never done this before, so does anyone have any tips? I want as many people as possible to particpate.

What age group will be in attendance for the most part? How many are you willing to host? Are the attendees going to be mostly local or will many be arriving from longer distances?

If you're trying to TO, just refer there. Basically nobody here knows anything about TO'ing. Smashboards is your best bet.

That doesnt necesarily answer the Q...
You need a base to advertise from, if you dont advertise in switzerland, no one from switzerland is likely to show up. how many ways are you spreading it, flyers/facebook/websites etc.

Simple answer. The single most important thing essential to survival is kart.

I'm just gonna put up a bunch of flyers around the city, and set up a facebook page. I might post something on smash boards too

NYC has a large competitive Smash scene with a lot of experience running tournaments. If you want help/tips for hosting one of your own, you should probably contact them. For example, you can check out this Facebook group.

Are there already tournaments in NYC? If so, I'll probably just join one; I didn't know there were already some official tournaments in the city.

I'd imagine that there are plenty. Again, you can refer to Smashboards for local tournament scenes. Facebook groups in particular are becoming popular. You can try searching up a NYC Smash scene on there. There most likely is one.

The Facebook group I linked is about Nebulous, which is a weekly tournament series in Manhattan for Melee, Project M, and Smash 4. As indicated in the group's "About" section, they host Melee on Saturdays, and Project M and Smash 4 on Sundays. The address is also listed there.
