St. Patrick's Day

So yeah, today is St. Patrick's Day.

Does anyone here participate in any traditions?

I don't really do much at all, but I have Irish ancestors and wore green today. That's about it  Smiley

Unsurprisingly, it's a pretty big thing here. I generally adhere to the stereotype of getting too drunk for the whole day but for the first time since I started drinking I haven't done anything. Mainly because most of my friends are in college currently (although they have today off) and I seem to be the only one with holidays.

It never ceases to amaze me how big an event it seems to have become around the world, especially in the US.  Smiley

I remember I participated in this one time in Secondary School, they asked if we could wear something green for the day, but I brought my Jamaican Flag in instead.

I wore a green and white plaid shirt today, and I've got a pair of green flip-flops that say IRISH on them. I also even made sure to wear my green boxers today. I saw many other people wearing green clothing as well. However, no Guinness or Smithwick's for me today, it's only Tuesday.  Sad

For the record (no pun intended) today was our hottest St. Patrick's Day ever. 86°F (30°C) according to a local weather report. I believe it's also the earliest it's ever been that hot here, as well. Plus, it's still officially winter here until Friday, so it's probably even our hottest "winter" temperature on record.  Cool

There were some people on the beach (including a few women in bikinis) and even a couple taking a quick dip in the water, which is still in the 60s (<20°C), plus there was a warning about bacteria in the water.
Pretty sure those folks were out-of-town tourists.  Roll Eyes

What´s about this Saint Patrick ? This holiday doesn´t  exist here, but probably there´s something related to the religious figure.

St. Patrick's Day honours the 5th century patron saint of Ireland. He brought Christianity to Ireland and used the shamrock to symbolise how the father, son and Holy Spirit make up the one God.

I forgot to mention, a funny thing happened during my local weather report, while they were talking about the record heat. Tuesday is "Pet of the Week" for my local news, and this week's featured dog started barking during the forecast. So one of the other meteorologists had to sit with the dog to keep it quiet.  Grin

I think it's also worth mentioning, while I'm on the subject of local weather, that our main meteorologist for 30 years, Mike Reader, retired at the end of February. He wasn't just the local weatherman-- he called out the words at one of the spelling bees I competed in, and he also delivered a eulogy at the funeral for one of my relatives (can't remember which).

Weather is always fun, especially spring and fall weather in the United States. We actually had a morning below freezing less than two weeks ago. I kinda like these ups and downs, normally inland areas get greater temperature swings (wonder if any places near here actually got up to 90 today), more severe thunderstorms, and worst of all, tornadoes, but luckily the tornadoes usually don't touch down this close to the Gulf of Mexico. *knocks on wood*

I haven't 'celebrated' St Patrick's Day since Uni (even then it just involved necking pints of watery Guinness at the local Wetherspoons).

Mrs Glozboy made a Guinness cake at the weekend though so we had a slice of that last night.
