Made a Python script that sends a request each video (using urllib2) and checks the "Last-Modified" HTTP header.

Weird that the hours are off. It would make more sense if one source was always earlier or later than the other, but the Lindblad example throws it all off.

We could send a test email to the yahoo group and record what time that email was sent.

Updated cases where the same player+time had an earlier date on the yahoogroups history:

(Ignored dates before the start date of 2005-11-26)

After that, a TTC flap by Sascha got negative duration. The only other negative duration times are Fabio's GCN LC flaps (were already negative before this change).

History comparison generated similar to the CS one, yahoogroups times are marked "YG":

I marked times as 'Both' if yahoogroups and mkwrs had the same player+time on the same day.
The times marked 'YG' before the start date can be ignored in most cases.

I didn't include cases where the YG time had a later date (which may indicate that we have the wrong date, or the player didn't submit right away), but if anyone wants I can post those cases after this sheet is gone through.

The negative time by Sascha (1:36.522) is easily taken care of since the time that was forcing it to be negative was also by him (1:35.957), meaning the negative time was just a former PR. I moved it back a single day, so it now lasts <1 day.

I never even noticed those times by Fabio had a negative duration... What are the source of those times by Christian F? He doesn't even have a link to a player's page profile

Turns out most shortcuts were found within the first month only to never be used in WRs until they were found again years later. Good job people.

RR SC 1: Probably what MKDasher found in 2014 or whenever to WR.
SC 2: The pipe shortcut was seriously found back then and never used? Amazing.
SC 3: The jump cut we do in non SC where we shroom right after landing for Flap.
BC SC: I presume this is the falling in lava to end the race, non SC.
SG SC 1: What only MKDasher has done with BLS to get SC Flap WR. This guy basically explains why the old SCs went forgotten. Pipe was thought to be slower (have to turn around), the MKDasher one they thought you had to drop down the track later on to make the lap count (actually this sounds weird, you can make random cuts count if you fall? wtf). Edit: Tested and no you can’t, they were fucking retards.

Edit: after almost finding a sc by accident, i decided to look for scs purposly, i think if you go past the 3 boosters at the beginning, turn around, and go back up and try to jump onto the other side, it might count as a lap! If anyone can get this to work, or has tried this and doesnt work, say something, this could be the biggest RR sc of MK history!

Here was the process...

1. I based original WR history only off posts in said topic.
2. Leone then compared this with the fastest times submitted to the site which Sully collected.
3. The rest you guys dug up, lol.

Keep in mind, the goal of my site was to report publicly announced WR's. I knew the yahoo submissions were a mess since people didn't send in every one thousandth improvement. The WR thread provided players with the ability to edit in multiple times so that we could later go back and document them. Understandably, some times may be missing since I chose the WR thread as the default. I know I spent an ungodly amount of time but typos?

Until 2007, updating was quite the bear with almost a 1000 e-mails to sort through monthly. Knowing people were lazy with submissions and could get their jollies faster on the forum, using the WR thread as a starting point seemed to be the right choice in the end.

Since Cole parsed out my times, there were some that got missed because of weird phrasing or some nonsense. Not sure where that 1'47"542 came from, but all of the other times are listed on my page however they appear later in the YG history.

Most players submit their times after reporting them on the forum which can make comparing the two extremely confusing.

Actually, I even found a vid for the ″359 on wrvids.com which of course confirms the Egg 1, and also shows a likely typo for the ″537. The ghost in the ″359 vid is actually a ″542, so I went ahead and changed the time too. It’s a weird typo but I can’t see it being anything else.

Maybe he deleted his BLS ghost to make an Egg1 ghost?

I don’t think there actually existed any SC WRs before whatever is already known (Josh’s rail times?). You can tell from his splits and the 2nd guy using BLS that they weren’t doing the pipe SC, it would give faster 0shroomers with Egg 1 and slower shroomer, but the pattern is the opposite. They’re also pretty consistent splits with the shroom barely saving any time, proving no SC. Also it’s known that he figured out the hop spamming strat on the loop when nobody else knew it. They’re not even close to being “too good to be true”.

I didn’t think of putting Stephane’s vids through archive.org, I can’t believe they were actually saved! That’s amazing!

2ch has around 250 MKDS threads (each thread is 1000 posts). Most posts are general MKDS discussion / wifi-oriented. I looked through a few of them and didn't find much. But in one thread I found a link to a TA focused thread which is the thread I linked.
Yes, the one you linked is the start of it. The only other one (the third one) died after 70 posts:

So there's only 3 TA focused threads which is not much. We might be able to find more in the general threads but it would be a lot of work to go through them.

There’s no real way to know whether everyone submitted to that Nintendo TA thing so I don’t think we can just add セカンド to the times… I’d rather keep the history 100% accurate, considering we’ve already had to change many kart choices because they were added randomly at first.

Maybe they had to mail their cartridges after winning, or maybe they met in person.

Times were verified with the "Up, Down, L, R, Y, A" code in the time trial menu.

Unrelated to WRs, I found another MKDS event they did in Japan where players could download a 1:05 rPC and 1:56 SR ghost:

Pretty sure that code somehow gives access to the run to Nintendo, so after players submitted their TA record code, Nintendo just got the ghost and recorded the run. I edited my previous post btw.

Using those inputs displays a code which the player sends to Nintendo to verify the track/time/kart/character. The code is only 16 characters so it's impossible to store the full ghost data.

Example: Entering EDJFK4NSYQ4PAKOI (from the screenshot in the first link) gives the track/kart/character/course time/lap time.
