Mount Wario Time Trial Q&A Thread
09/23/14 at 00:30:31

Alright so. I know I can't be the only one pondering this muthah.  But can someone please give a comprehensive explanation on how to bounce/jump down the boost pads on the last section of mount wario.

Ive been watching the WR over and over, and trying to replicate where he starts his jumps and what not. but for the life of me it just won't freakin work.

what section of the initial hill do you actually jump off of?

what is the physics or cause of the kart to jump in that kind of way and how do you make it consistent?

Please and thank you to any who can provide some good info on this.

Questions thread is the palace to go.

The last downhill with the boost pads?

That place is annoying. To do that special hop, all you have to know is...
1: You must be in a boost, SMT or boost pad
2: You hop only while in a boost to get off the road
3: Try sticking to the left where the road is slightly slanted for a better chance of getting air
4: Keep practicing, as getting the hops all the way down saves ~1-1.5 seconds, 2 if you get to Tsuki/Blake level hops
5: Messing up hops partway down is still ~as fast as not hopping at all
6: If you're not getting tons of air, you're doing something wrong

There is no special trick to it. Just make sure you never hop w/o a boost and hop as soon as you land.

Start hopping at the first boost pad. It's the easiest place to start. Trying to start at the anti-grav strip requires a specific timing with the SMT.

yesss, thanks for the reply.  I am just realizing that now lol.

I'd also like to use this thread to have more about Mount Wario than just those boost pads, ill report more on them as I learn them, hopefully make a good comprehensive explanation on them once I learn them.

But an explanation for the very start of mount wario, to get the initial low jump off the first ramp, there is a line of arrows pointing down all the way to the ramp, start the hop at the second to last arrow, inbetween the second to last arrow and 3rd arrow can also work.  any earlier gets you a regular trick any later makes you hop over the whole ramp and get nothing.

thanks to those that posted.  If anyone else has tips on running mount wario feel free to post them here.

Luso said you have to hold the stick right down or left down for the downhill hops. They are not random. If you want the wr hops, start hopping as soon as you hit the bluestrip. It works really well and it is way easier. When I read his tips, I got some decent hops first try.

so when switching the direction on the hops downhill, it should be in the bottom 45 degree angles rather than straight side to side or even upper 45's correct?

This is the other way. You have to get the timing right though, otherwise you don't get any air. I used have the proper timing a month ago, but I keep missing now. I've personally never done downright/downleft before, so that might make things easier.

Easy if you got the timing. But pretty much, SMT -> Double Hop at the Blue Strip should give you air and lands you on the first boost pad.

I think the place I have the most trouble with is definitely the bunny hopping at the dam section. My best hops are so much faster than my average, that it's not even funny. Like, almost a full second difference between my best vs average hops...

yeah its all about getting a good boost cycle, which is based on your speed through the previous areas.

not sure if the cycles switch around for online or vs play though.

1) Aim your tricks on the humps to the left to help with the angle you release the SMT. Turning into the corner too much from too wide a position will make it very difficult to not hit the left wall.
2) Do not hold the directions to their max - it makes the kart more difficult to control. All you need to ensure is that you do hop to successive sides and going easy on the control stick will help you to move around less.
3) Hold R all the way through each hop. This ensures that for the split second you land on the snow, you do not experience "sticky hops", the phenomenon that arises from trying to fire-hop downhill. There is no need to hold R all the time in the air, it just makes it easier to ensure you hold it as you land. (Then of course release and press again as you land).

Oh yeah, about the boost ramp from cave -> dam. Charging an SMT there is slower than low hop -> MT, but faster than normal hop -> MT.

Typically, you can get a good dam boost cycle with a sub 24.2xx section 1.
