The two last remaining 02:00 tracks

The only 2 tracks left that have a time higher then 2 minutes are RR and rDKJ.
I realy hope both of them get a sub 02:00 in the future so that mk8 is a full 01:00 game haha! :p

Unfortunately, with the current strats it doesn't look both of them will get one.
New strat will surely come, but will they be enough to provide us the sub 02:00 on each track?
Make a vote and let's see what's going to happen in the future. :p

DKJ is probably not a sub 2 track. There's too much of a difference to make it. Of course new strats will lower it, but so far it doesn't look like it. RRd though could definitely sub here.

RR will for sure
DKJ I'm not sure, if a new strat is found, it has got to save alot of time.

RR already has the splits for 2:00, and I think the new shroomspot isn't completely optimal yet. 1'59 will happen, but it may take a few months to achieve.

DKJ sub 2mn would take a considerable new strategy to be achieved. Even an hypothetical 6.0 speed combo likely wouldn't cut it with the current strat. But who knows what this game or this particular track still has to offer in terms of new techniques. Records on many tracks still get improved by several tenths relatively quickly, so ultimately, in a couple years or more, this sub could still happen.

I'd be honestly surprised if they'd fail to sub 2:00.

I think RR is the only one that has a chance of subbing 2:00 before the first set of DLC tracks come out. At which there might be more 2:00+ tracks. Actually, I hope there are more 2:00+ tracks, cause the current courses just feel too short.

Very interesting subject, was considering making a thread predicting when the game will sub 2'00 on all tracks.

I think RR could be soon, and I think DKJ will be subbed in a couple of years, but it'll take a while. Maybe sooner, maybe never. But I think it will eventually be subbed.

There's a possibility that DLC tracks will have some 2+ minute tracks but I still think the original 32 would still be an incredible goal for the WR holders to all aim for.

^Yea, where is it?

rDKJ will never happen, and getting just a 2:00.7xx on RR seems like it'll take a ridiculously strong run.

So, unless something even more broken than firehopping gets discovered (which is incredibly unlikely at the rate we're going), you guys must really think these two WRs are weak.

Also, keep in mind that MK8 WR's as whole are already 485+ WRs more than MKWii's WRs set in 2008, as well as 200+ more than MK7 WRs set in Dec. 2011 - entire 2012 year. That just shows how much we've pushed this game (which already has limited mechanics) compared to the previous two installments.

MK8 is the only Mario Kart game with online leaderboards and an exhaustive WR website since release. There are probably multiple unreported 2008 MKWii WRs. With Miiverse it is also possible to track successive little improvements that would remain unnoticed otherwise. Thus, I think comparing these numbers is not really meaningful.

Well, there's definitely WRs that we missed for April and maybe May 2008, but I'm pretty sure that by June the WR activity was already going at a some-what considerable pace (except GV and MG glitch). To say we missed even 100 WRs for that game seems a bit ridiculous to me. There couldn't have been that many small improvements we failed to notice.

Not to mention that we still have 3 and half months until the end of this year, and MKWii had almost two extra months for development time (April and May). So yea, I think my point still stands to some extent.

They both must be done at some point. We can't start proposing "limits" when the game hasn't even been out for 4 months, we have years and years of activity to go yet Roll Eyes

Agreed, let's not pull a Jaws (who said something like 1:09.3 was the limit for TAS on LC in MKW).

Whoever said "neither" in the past was a retard back then, we all know how much a tiny RFH improvement saves because every single frame that is improved will cause greater speed value to be stored until the next turn as well as it was always clear that MK8 will be like MKW in the terms of optimizing (doesn't look all that much better, still a few tenths faster per minute).

The only thing that surprised me was that DKJ caught up so fast, as I always was thinking about RR being the first one by far and DKJ following around 1 year later, but new strats change the game and that's good.

Even though I barely play it myself I still like to watch the game, and if somewhen TASes are to be made I probably will try it as well, game looks great fun to be optimized, because I think several seconds can still be made with every hop being frame perfect on the more hop based tracks

Totally agreed. And I can't even get more than 2:00.5XX on RR with my current lines and current strats. Looks like rDKJ will be the first to sub 2:00,unless some mad guy finds an amazing new strat.
