Just beta elements left over, like in the majority of past MK games. Not only do they lack extra golden decoration, but the Shine Sprite in particular seems very beta, look at its rough edges:

Edit: even though these are beta icons, they are used as placeholders for reserved DLC slots

These icons are intended to be used for DLC; or at least, are placeholders for images that may eventually be used. Their filenames from left to right in the image are:

ym_CupIconDLC_02_130x130^h.bflim
ym_CupIconDLC_03_130x130^h.bflim

Look at the image names. Looks promising

I think they need some kind of "track slots" for DLC tracks to work. So they added course no. 33-48 and their respective cup icons beforehand, so they will be able to patch in additional tracks without changing too much of the "core" code.

I was very sceptical until now, but these filenames look convincing enough to excpect some DLC tracks in the future

Hopefully they will be for free, so everyone can play them online, thus no limits in clanwars (I doubt it, because literally everyone would be like "Take my Money" if they offer new tracks Smiley

)
The icons look very beta-ish, but let's just recap Nintendo's patching abilities on the Wii U - nothing easier than replacing a single image file which is already on the disc with a new icon? Roll Eyes

I am still kind of dissapointed that there is no track editor that came out alongside of the game, i would have loved to see a csgo style of custom made tracks that come in and out of the track rotation.

This. I'm excited to see the evolution of strats on new tracks. Especially now that a lot of tech strats like bunny hopping, skimming, etc are more matured.
