i used the original wii controller to get most of my mk8 times, does that matter?
Some control schemes give the player a slight advantage in handling and traction, which is why said said control schemes are used in most WRs. Many of the karters around here care a great deal about whether you used advantageous control schemes or not, which is why they is now an option for submitting times.
You can find more information on the different control schemes on
this page.
I'll need more precisions from your comment regarding the control scheme you used. If you used the Wii remote alone, you have to pick either the d-pad or the wheel option, depending on whether gyro was used or not. If instead you used the Wii remote with the Wiichuk attachment, you have to pick the first option with the stick icon. Hope that's clear enough.

i don't know what any of that stuff is, i didn't change any settings, all i used was the wii u gamepad and that controller seperately.
For that controller, pick the stick icon then.
I have no idea what any of this is man, i never changed any settings with using these controllers.....
edit:
i'm basically asking if not changing any settings could of left functions like motion controls on, but how can they give an advantage anyway, is it something you would know just by playing?
I have a hard time understanding what you're trying to say, but the controller advantages were discovered a few weeks after release for the motion controls, and later in 2015 for the wiimote D-pad.
-You always get the handling/traction advantage using one of the above, even if you don't notice it.
-If you use a different controller or control scheme (like the Classic Controller Pro you just posted), there's no way to get the advantage whatsoever. Times driven using those are designated as "Non-Advantage" (or "N-A") by the community, and as of the new site's launch, will be labelled with the stick icon next to your times.
In your case, there's no gyro included with the Classic Controller Pro, so all your times are automatically Non-Advantage, and should therefore be submitted with the stick icon.
