I think the primary issue was that Nintendo's main online charts included SC, so to remain relevant the PP had to adopt this stance as well. Ultimately, it will likely be determined by how Nintendo handles records in their own charts.
I think we should keep non-SC as the main regardless (but still have SC charts, if there are any SC's, of course), because something really changed in MKW. Everyone went from playing the glitches and thinking, "Wow, a new glitch, this is cool/fun," to, "Fuck's sake, not another one." This is notable because almost nobody really plays the glitches anymore except for a select few people, because the glitches devolved from some luck/skill factor to just, "fire shroom in general direction of tree, there's a 1/1000 chance you'll get it, so pray it works." It also creates a huge imbalance in the actual skill among racers on the charts; many good players like Bubbles, Brendan, etc., who would still be rather high-ranking, have plummetted because they retired before the newer glitches were found, and they went from sometimes top10 on a track to ranked ~200 on said track, killing their AF. And no, they usually don't have complete Non-SC timesheets, because things like Grumble Volcano No Glitch/SC weren't even a real category until mid/late 2010; before that, everyone (myself included) just viewed that category as a dumb gimmick for people to play if they weren't good enough to get a top10 with the rock hop.
