La polémica está servida, pues han surgido voces que apoyan esta técnica, pero también las que la condenan, diciendo que emplearla va en contra del espíritu competitivo y que no era algo que tenían los desarolladores en mente, que se trata de un error.

Este tipo de fallos que los jugadores aprovechan en su beneficio reciben el nombre de exploit, y están mal vistos por la comunidad jugona. Habrá que esperar si Nintendo se pronuncia al respecto, si deja el Fire Hopping o si, por el contrario, sacará un parche que impida su uso.

The hop strat wasnt intended by Nintendo and they might patch it.

Not sure if some of you already knew this. Thought it would be a good idea to share it.

That's the reason why they didn't want to patch Maka Wuhu and whatever else at first on MK7... But later they did patch it only for online, while leaving it in time trials.

I know I'm just one person but the boost from fire-hopping is really keeping me away from TTing/really getting excited about MK8. Sure, I could learn it, but it's just a nuisance.

People want Nintendo to patch it since I guess it wasn't intended? (I read that somewhere, been reading up on this, I don't have link any more).

I would rather have a solid time on a track because I have good lines without worrying about fire-hopping about 5+ times per lap.
However I don't think Nintendo can really patch this unless they extended the boost time from said boosts to whatever the boosts with the fire-hop give.

It's just not fun to fire-hop IMO
As someone who enjoys(ed) TTing, I really have no incentive to do so in MK8. Will I? Eventually but I really don't want to because of the hops is basically what I'm getting at. I personally see it as a nuisance for an otherwise beautiful game.
But it would be difficult to try to patch this anyways so Ninty probably wouldn't try to make the effort anyways!

e: Interesting. I guess time will tell. If there's a ton of outrage/discussion about it, I feel like Nintendo will at least mention it.

Call it something else then, such as "bunny hopping" or "boost hopping". Imo, "bunny hopping" fits cause its similar to "bunny hopping" in Quake or Counter-Strike. Even the inputs are similar, Left + Hop, Right + Hop, Left + Hop, etc. Just way easier to do in comparison though.

I wasn't too keen on the TTs for this game in the first place, and now the frogging thing just takes a bit more interest out of it. Maybe it spices things up a bit, but just doesn't seem too fun. Not a big deal though I guess.

There's always some little techs in Kart that end up being faster. In MK7 you hopped downhill, in MKW you low trick, in MKDS you hop while going up (esp. while boosting). This kind of thing really shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. It's just another way to push the R button to go faster.

Actually "Popular with DKR fans" fits extremely well because that feature was present in that game (with the hovercraft).

Though I'm a bit disappointed the hop strat was not intended, since this is the first time since MKDS that they add some techs to the gameplay.

but not really the number of hops, rather the speed at which you do them, which can lose you over ″100 if it’s not fast enough

and then trying as hard as possible to go the fastest, you start missing hops and do random drifts, fucking pain in the ass
