I know its not a huge factor but i woulda thought acceleration would be better to have over weight. Does weight factor in the gliding speed? Thats the only reason i can think of.

While we are on the topic of stats... Are the mach 8, circuit special, and gold kart (and one other. Forgot name) really EXACTLY the same? There arent any hidden stats or any that make them different?

Also any tips for bowsers castle that arent obvious from watching the ghosts?

Why would you need acceleration in a time trial? You're not slowing down anywhere...

Turning slightly slows you down! Also the beggining even though you get the start boost your still accelerating. Its not much i know which is why i asked what does weight do in TT?

all of that isn’t affected by acceleration, it’s affected by speed

acceleration is only starting from a dead start without a boost, only useful in Wi-Fi

weight is probably just as much irrelevant for TTs, but maybe it gives better low tricks or stuff like that, who knows

the Prima Guide shows that the accel gliders have an MT boost though, so maybe they’re better

Ok so by that logic the accel gliders should be used! Ima try it out tonight and see if there is any noticeable difference. In the meantime does anyone else have any knowledge to contribute!

I was also taking an interest in this as well...  The World Records vary greatly on Glider selection.  It might depend on the track being played.  The acceleration Gliders have a mini-turbo boost, and the other Gliders are faster in the air.  Does anybody else know why only few World Records are set with the Gold Standard/Sports Coupe?  Is this a coincidence?  The only change in Kart Bodies is the size.  Maybe time will tell?   Undecided

Gold standard takes a while to unlock
Sports coupe, people just probably have a preference for the mach 8 and the circuit special because of looks

People use Mach 8 mainly because it's wider and has a larger hit-box for getting coins

Yeah, Mach 8 is massive...  The wheels on that Kart stick directly outwards.  It's even larger than the Circuit Special.  Smiley   Exclaim  Does anybody have Glider theories?

Honestly, I don't think glider selection matters much. At this stage in the game, the differences in records are large enough that the miniscule differences in glider do not come in to play.

In MK7 for example, which has been out for 2.5 years, glider choice is STILL widely variable. So overall, I doubt that glider choice is ever going to be a defining part of a world record.

Smiley  Yes, in MK8, looking at what we have so far, the acceleration Gliders are superior on tracks with absolutely no Glider sections.  Air speed now doesn't exist, which hinders the other gliders.  But... Maybe the default Gliders help you fall faster... due to weight boosting?  This would also change things, heh.  ALAKTORN mentioned this weight theory before, which was thoughtful.  The Super Glider looks the coolest, anyways.   Exclaim  I also though about the rapid-fire hopping, after the player finishes a turbo boost.  An acceleration Glider's marginal Mini-Turbo boost might help out more with these, in some way, shape or form.  The possibilities are quite numerous.  Smiley

I think that like in MK7, we’ll never know the difference gliders make, unless TAS comes along

I’ve played around with both gliders on DP3 and can see no difference

and actually I see no difference in the hitboxes of the fast karts either, I just use Morton + Mach 8 because they’re the smallest possible and I can see the road clearly

Does anyone have the gold glider yet? I have the crazy theory that you could get a hidden stat boost (there are hidden stats everywhere), if you use all three gold parts Smiley

Isn't Mii (heavy) even smaller than Morton ?
Thanks for sharing the tip about taking the smallest possible, it's true it can make TTing more comfortable.

Yeah, the Mach 8 stays close to the ground.  In terms of unlocking the Gold Glider... we know that we need 10000 coins.  What happens if you play with 4 neighbors on Split-Screen...?  Do all of these combined Players help you collect coins much faster... Or is it just Player 1 that actually matters?  Also, is there a Coin collecting difference when playing in 4-Player Grand Prix, or 4-Player Versus?  For example, maybe 4-Player Versus is useless when collecting coins, even for Player 1?  I haven't tested any of this.  Time Trials collects coins, unlike MK7, which is good.  It isn't fair how Players in this game cannot check their Coin total, via Records screen, etc.

If you play 4 player splitscreen GP you can get up to 40 coins per race. All Coins combined of all players are added to the total I believe. So that is probably the fastest way to collect coins.

i've done 32 vs races in single player and all the coins from that counted. the first time i did that i went from less than 350 to over 600 coins.

haven't tried vs mode with 4 people but i'm pretty sure it counts too.

The 4 fast karts all have different hitboxes.

I think for horizontal hitboxes it's:
Mach 8 > Circuit Special > Sports Coupe > Gold Standard
Bowser = Morton = Mii = Wario
Slick = Cyber Slick

To prove that the 4 karts have different hitboxes, I played Cloudtop Cruise with each Kart + Wario + Slick + Wario Wing. All I did was hold A (getting a burnout start), and each kart takes a completely different path due to hitting walls differently.

With Gold Standard and Sports Coupe you can finish the race if you hold right for 2 lakitu sequences near the end, so this let me test the characters / tires.

I got a time of 4:51.413 with all these combos:
Wario / Gold Standard / Cyber Slick / Wario Wing
Wario / Gold Standard / Slick / Wario Wing
Wario / Gold Standard / Cyber Slick / Super Glider
Bowser / Gold Standard / Cyber Slick / Wario Wing
Mii / Gold Standard / Cyber Slick / Wario Wing

And a time of 2:12.913 with these:
Wario / Sports Coupe / Slick / Wario Wing
Morton / Sports Coupe / Slick / Wario Wing

I do think there are optimal karts for each track based on whether you need a larger hitbox for coins, or a smaller one for corners. But characters and tires seem to be equal (unless Bowser has a larger vertical hitbox for air coins?).
