SMT charged faster?

Hey guys!

For those who got the game, idk if you tried to versus the current WR ghost but it manages to charges the SMT much faster than normally.

Therefore my question is : What is the way to charge it faster??

Maybe it has been said in another topic... And if so, please copy and paste the answer on this topic so people who have the same question/issue can relate to it.

^Nope the ghost used paraglider...

Alexony just told me a couple of things :
- Like MK7, if you manage to turn as much as possible to the right (in the case of the first turn in MKS) you can charge it, then at the last moment you could turn to the left when the SMT is charged to get a better line.

- Starting your drift sooner could help, and going wide is helpful for some turns, so you can get the SMT easi

You have to do a technique called softdrift, which originated in MKWii.

It involves charging a mini-turbo at the best speed while only drifting marginally.
To do this, you have to pull the stick only around halfway through the direction you're drifting. The practical method used by almost everyone is to pull the stick diagonally (up or down).

when I tried it I felt like it was still drifting as tight as pressing Right, as if the game only has 3 drifts: tight, neutral, wide

I’m doing diagonal upright, what’s wrong? :/

I feel like they go to the yellow charge faster than I can by holding to the side completely even if we get the blue charge at the same time. I still wish I could just see the exact inputs, but oh well. Hopefully it'll just click eventually.

Edit: If I try holding upright on the first turn instead of just right, I definitely get the blue spark alot slower....

^what I do to MT fast is trying to make the movements as “strong” as possible, meaning I always press either left or right, without wiggling or staying neutral which lowers the charge rate (so I either go max wide or max tight and adjust my turning likewise)

edit: if you’re charging red slower than a ghost by hopping at the same time and pressing right at the same time, then that’s weird lol

actually there’s a thing I haven’t mentioned because I thought it obvious from MK7: delay drifting; it means you start pressing a direction late after the hop so you don’t turn mid-air, because mid-air it doesn’t charge so you should only turn when you land on the road

So did I because I didn't see something right. The editing curse. I do it too much  Lips Sealed
I do the late drifting thing btw. I did play mk7 for a short while.

But yeah I tried holding upright and jumping at the same time (for comparisons sake) and the blue charge appears way later this way so I don't see how this could possibly be "charging a mini-turbo at the best speed". There must be something i'm not getting here.

edit: Holding it lightly DOES actually seem to make a difference though and holy shit that's annoying. I imagine this is in no way possible with the d-pad? Not that I use it anyway, but I felt like testing the up-right thing with it as well and it seemed to just detect the complete right direction that way Tongue

I use the stick and when I tried softdrifting with it (upright) I drifted fully right anyway

so it’s even less right than that? hmm…

I can basically only get it to work by slightly tilting the stick. Touching any corner/holding any other direction than to the side and it does nothing.

Pretty sure no one holds the stick like that.
I hold my stick in the 45 degree corners for softdrifting.

On a somewhat related note, can someone clarify the hopping tech for me?

1. Is it beneficial to hop after both blue and orange MTs or just orange?

2. Do you have to turn back and forth while you hop or can you just hop up and down and get the same benefit?

3. Do you get the benefit from other boots like the start boost and boosters on the ground?

4. Should you keep hopping only until the flames of the boost fade or is do you keep going for some time after that?

5. Anyone know why exactly this makes a difference?
