Nintendo already did it with F-zero GX: some pieces were unlockable only in the japanese edition.
Other country people was forced to buy and use an action repaly (with codes) in order to unlock the same pieces.
And yes, the above pieces were part of many ships holding a WR.

Putting the fact that only Japs will get it aside, that's actually one thing I was wondering about DLCs in MK8 already. New courses would be great and Nintendo would be stupid if they did not release some at some point of time.
But what if Nintendo releases a new kart or bike which is faster than each of the original vehicles (worldwide of course)? All of the old times would become obsolete in one shot. So we really should consider to set up rules in advance for that scenario (seperate charts etc.).

Though not Nintendo, with the latest Hot Shots Golf game I think every two months they released a new ball and club level set with better stats than the previous, and they did this 6 times Grin

I think with Nintendo's recent competitive-appealing marketing with SSB4 (Invitational and GC controller support) there may be some hope for them not to screw things up. N64 track pack in the future? Shocked

this is one of the weirdest things I've seen in a Mario game. I guess Nintendo's trying to get with the times and add DLC. I wonder why they chose Mercedes though? Grin

I'm not sure about this. If a faster car or part was released as free DLC to everyone, it would just simply change the vehicle setup for the course and should be allowed. I can't see why that would have to be relegated to a separate chart. If it were region locked? Surely. Behind a paywall? (though I can't see Ninty doing that) Probably. But released free to everyone just seems like it would be treated like a strat change and be allowed on the main charts.

My perspective: Strats are generally changed much more than annually. I've never had a WR, but I can't imagine I would expect it to only be beaten by someone using the same strat. Also the hard work wouldn't be for nothing, I would have had the WR.
