US eshop estimates 4.8 GB. I was mainly concerned about eshop being overloaded with requests since this would be the first WiiU game I've downloaded (so I have no idea if release downloads go smoothly or not). I can pick up a physical copy at midnight so if the download takes more than 3 hours it would make sense to just go to the store and get the physical copy.

No. 4.9 GB is the room it takes once installed on your system; the download size is smaller. The eShop only shows install sizes, not download sizes.
