It was weird tho. Have you tried to restart your SNES or blowing into the cart? Sometimes the most simple method to get the game to work again.

Don't get rid of the cartridge and bring it at CDM to see if it can be fixed. Hope you'll find another one in the meantime. Wink

Had the same thing happen to me. The SNES would play other games, but wouldn't play SMK right. The same SMK cartridge works just fine on a different SNES.

The cartridge is in quite a state because my cat pulled my SNES on to the floor which cracked the cartridge and the SNES, it was fine for a long time but...

I keep my door closed when Karting, so my dogs don't get in (but they probably wouldn't bother me much anyway, much less knock my SNES down).
I'm really not much of a cat person. Most of my family absolutely hates cats. And we'd really hate them a lot more if they broke our stuff.

Anna: Is your game asking you if you want to race your ghost before you start? I've never seen either the American or PAL versions display that prompt, it must be only in the Japanese version (much like how the word REPLAY flashes on the screen during replays in Japanese games only... why the hell did they remove that in the Western releases?)

Yes it says "do you want to load your ghost?" YES / NO. I've never played NTSC (U) but I noticed the lack of the flashing REPLAY on the NTSC WR vids done on NTSC (U). In the Japanese version, the victory actions after winning the GP are also different. No idea why they took out the load ghost prompt, it is silly to have to input the code every time, ghost save is also easier on NTSC J

Only Bowser's and the Princess's are, IIRC. The Japanese version shows them drinking from the bottle of champagne; Nintendo of America of course censored this out and gave these two characters new victory poses. I assume the PAL version keeps these changes (I haven't yet played GP on my PAL game)

You probably already know about the Western releases of MK64 changing the billboards on LR as well as the colors of "64" sign, because in the Japanese game they were parodies of actual American company logos ("Marioro" for Marlboro cigarettes, "64" was a take on the American gas station 76, etc.).

I can go on and on about NoA's numerous censorships in the 1990s, and not just in the Mario Kart series.
