Now, it's time to figure out what order they should be in. To determine this, we ask you all to send me as a private message your top picks for who you think should go furthest in this year's contest! I will only consider for seeding PMs in my MB inbox. Nowhere else. Not Skype, in the chatroom, over FB, anywhere else. Note that mods don't get any free points or anything, so by all means if you think a mod should be seeded, you should put them in your lists now, unlike what your lists looked like in the nominations phase.
So this is how it's going to work. Give me a list of up to 16 people - the person ranked last, or if not marked the karter at the bottom of your list, will get 1 seeding point. The top person on your list gets as many points as there are people on your list. If you pick 16 people out, that person gets 16 seeding points. IMPORTANT: You also get in seeding points the number of people on your list that you send me. You send nothing, you get 0 seeding points for free. You send me a list of 16 people, you get 16 seeding points for free. With this in mind, you are NOT allowed to put yourself on your own list. If I see you even try this, your entire list will be discarded and you will get 0 points for free.
Anyone who both has had a timesheet on one of the Player's Pages since May 12th and has been on the forum since January 1st is qualified to send in seeding lists. If you aren't in the contest, clearly you're just not going to get any free points, but we'll count the list.
The top 16 seeds will get a bye past the group phase of this year's contest, and the points the rest get will still matter as that will determine group placing and the rounds afterwards. So this week of the Karter Contest can make or break people's chances to get far - so speak up and PM me!
If you have any questions about the seeding phase, please PM either me or Lafungo. I will update this post with any Q/A exchanges we have, in case others have the same questions.
Q: Is it kosher for me to seed people that I think are unlikely to be high seeds in order to maximize my own chances of receiving a top seed, or would that be frowned upon? From a game theory perspective, that is my best play, but I don't want to do something that you would consider "unsportsmanlike".
A: There is nothing restricting your choices for seeding, so if that is what you want to do with your voice in the seeding process, then go ahead. This does mean though that you're probably throwing away the opportunity to give people you like on the board a chance to go further than they would otherwise. But your choices are yours to make.
