If I purchase the Wii U + MK8 bundle by release or shortly after, I am very anticipated in participating in this. I worked hard on optimizing MKW video recording, so I believe MK8 should have an equally organized way of presenting any of-value records.
Also hopefully Nintendo will take as much care as they did with MKW's leaderboard and ghost system instead of they way they handled MK7. Also, as you said Mick, now that MK8 will be a console game, game recording will be much easier than buying not widely-known 3DS capture cards...which are also pricey. I own a Hauppauge HD PVR Model 1212, as you can see (this video was not uploaded by me, but by someone else since it was a request; the video is still recorded by me):
Hopefully that meets your expectations.
I'm pretty active in the TT community, even though I haven't shown much activity here. And about being trusted, the only possible hurtful thing I've done is hack
for fun in a war against some random clan, which I then got caught and was put on the IL banlist. I am nowhere near someone who would preform bad and troublesome acts for fun, and never have, plus I can safely say we have all hacked for fun at least once while playing games.

I agree that optimizing search results in a good idea, and that we should see what we can do to make the videos more accessible, but some of your ideas seem like they could be worked on. This is all only my best opinion so if you would want to debate on what would be best, please do so. We can start off with how the title of videos should be put.
The way people like Sword or Mander put their titles seems like the best shortened, clean, informative way of presenting what the video is about. For example, a spammy way of putting the title would be such as:
Sweet Sweet Canyon - 1:23.456 - ☆Jας©hα☆ (Mario Kart 8 World Record)The problem with this is that it probably wouldn't fit under YouTube's title space when viewing the video. You'd have to click on the title again just to see the rest of it. Yes I know this is only for search engine
optimization, but it would be better to include such tags and wording in the video description or in the tags themselves. Plus, this look just looks long. A cleaner way of putting this would be:
[MK8 WR] Sweet Sweet Canyon - 1:23.456 - ☆Jας©hα☆This looks short and to the point. Abbreviated words are better when classifying information as well, as they take up less space and appeal to the time trial and normal aspect of the community. It would also mostly fit under YouTube's video title viewing limit when viewing the video. Sure, if you have track names that are long by default, they might still break YouTube's viewing limit. This however should only be under 10% of the tracks in the game, whereas your suggestion would be for most if not all of the video titles. Also another point, which is still debatable; the only people who would probably be interested in the time trial aspect of the game are...well time trialers. Most time trialers already know the abbreviations such as "WR" and "MK8". The full, extended words should really only be left for the video tags and description. Here is an example of what the video title would look like in comparison to the extended version:

As you can see, the second image looks more visually appeasing.
As for the video descriptions, I agree the most of what you suggested is spot on.
At the top of the description before the "show more" tab should be opened, it should include the following information in the five lines:
- A note that says "Watch in 720p / 1080p."
- Date when time was set
- Current ranking of record when the time was set
- Lap splits of the run
- Vehicle combo usedAs for the rest of the description after the "show more" tab, it would be cool if it included the following:
- Previous world record and the duration of it to the current world record
- [optional] player's comment
- Download link to the raw video to be viewed in better quality and frame-rate
- The music used in the run if used, following the link to the music
- Link to the player's YouTube channel, and/or other main social networks, and if possible the stream link to where they set the run at.
- Links to the official rankings sites, such as Cole's site, the MK8 PP (when created), the MK8 PP forums, etc.As for special characters, characters such as underscores to separate sections of the description and bullets to list information if very helpful. Also, if music was used, the song name would be surrounded in music symbols. As cool as Andy's description looks, it's not necessary at all. Here is an example of what the description would look like:
Link to the description since it is too large to screen-shot:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0p0rJwIb7QThe reason I put quotation marks around the numbers instead of decimals and semicolons in the description is so we could prevent YouTube from automatically creating timestamps, which would make it look like a mess. You could also have viewers accidentally click one of these, interrupting them.
I have much more to say from here, but I'm going to stop it here, and see what you and other people think about my suggestions thus far. Please let me know what you think about it.
