There is nothing at the top, God knows why.


After the 10 best worldwide times, the top displays your Wii U friends' times: you can download their ghosts, they don't have to send them manually to you, which is an improvement over Mario Kart Wii.
There's also your own time with a yellow background behind your Mii.


I have absolutely NO IDEA what the orange background you see several times on the videos is for. It doesn't seem to correspond to Wii U friends: I have Seboss added but sometimes he shows up with a white background, and other times he has an orange background. It doesn't seem to indicate the online status either (I checked) and the digital manual doesn't talk about it.
