Linkin Park was my favorite band, loved the first 2 albums. However i have no respect for suicide killers  .

I never listened to Linkin Park. I can't name a single song they do, all I know is that they were a pretty popular band with the younger folks. I was never into "alternative" rock or whatever. (As for Soundgarden, another alt band whose frontman recently passed, the only song I know from them is "Black Hole Sun"...)

Heck, I think "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was already at least ten years old when I heard it for the first time. I probably didn't hear a Pearl Jam song for the first time until the 2000s, as well. Growing up, I always assumed most (or at least a lot of) kids listened to country like I did (although some of them taught me some rap lyrics, e.g. "I'm a no limit soldier/I thought I told ya/UHHH!/There ain't no limit!")

With the recent events in Las Vegas, it is time to bump this thread now.

We learned today that pretty much anyone in America can turn into a mass murderer with absolutely no warning at all. The man who took more than 50 lives at a country music festival had no prior criminal record and lived in a peaceful retirement community. He also fired his shots from outside of the venue, proving that a shooter doesn't even need to be present at the even itself in order to commit a mass shooting-- they can snipe at victims from some distance away.

I'm wondering how this will affect tonight's Monday Night Football game. I am sure the game will still be played. The fans are probably in no greater danger than at any other game, but I do think extra security measures may be taken, and most of all, there will be a moment of silence for the victims.

Fuck you, Jaws.

Looks like Tom Petty just died. I was in the car this morning with my girlfriend mentioning about how I don't really understand why so many people like his music (this was well before any mention of him being on life support at the time, so it wasn't out of disrespect or anything). To each their own, I guess. Maybe I just grew up in a different era and didn't appreciate whatever his music brought to people.

Nothing against him as a person or anything, but much like other celebrities, him dying doesn't exactly affect me in the least.

That being said, "Runnin' Down a Dream" is a truly fantastic song. RIP Tom Petty.

At the risk of coming across as misplacing my priorities... I gotta say, thanks a lot, Stephen Paddock, for taking away my Jeopardy! today. It never fails, my show gets pre-empted here by extended national news coverage every single time there is any national tragedy (and sometimes even an international tragedy). Some of us would like to take it off our minds for 30 minutes (or an hour) and just go on with our normal daily routines... If we want more news why can't we just watch CNN or something?  

I'm sure Monday Night Football will go on as planned, and I really do hope everyone gives the Las Vegas victims a moment of silence. Including the players during the national anthem. People will be very, very angry if there are niggers sitting/kneeling during the singing of our anthem tonight. (Yes, I used an unpopular word to describe the "protesting" NFL players, but if they're doing this, then that's exactly what they're acting like. Gotta call a spade a spade.)

EDIT: The Kansas City Philharmonic has just performed the Star-Spangled Banner. One Chiefs player, CB Marcus Peters, remained seated on the bench. With my right hand over my heart, I used my left hand to flip him the bird.

I don't even understand why anyone bothers playing the anthem before a sporting event (except in international competition) - it's sports, let's just enjoy it for what it is rather than attempting grandiose displays of pseudo-nationalism. I don't care about the political stances of the players, I want to watch a game, that's it.

Even if you *do* care about the political stances of the players for some reason, isn't the point they are utilizing their right to a peaceful protest and free speech? Whether or not you agree with their stances, it seems distinctly unpatriotic to dislike the fact that they are protesting. What's wrong with letting people protest as is within their rights?
